Description OK, there's the bastard that I was fighting with for a LONG time last autumn.

Originally it was supposed to become a lyre (check an earlier reincarnation in the scraps), but in the end I had to give up and change the plans. But, you can read all about that in my past journal entries.

The body is oak, the neck is pine (hey, I'm stupid...but I wanted to try it), and the "soundboard" is bull rawhide I processed myself from the beginning (like, as in a dead bull is a beginning for a rawhide) .

The reddish colour is henna, and the designs are some lousy-ass industrial leather paint.

The strings are bunches of....I believe 50 and 80 individual strands of fishing line. I didn't have this long horsehair, and anyway wanted to try this, I've read that all the pro Morinkhuur & Igil players use fishing line these days, at least when gigging.

I guess it should sound a bit like an igil... Some elements are copied from Moroccan rebabs, though.

And it's quite damn hard to play.

I used guitar tuning machines, I had a temporary lapse of belief in tuning pegs. (after fighting with the ones in my jouhikko for some considerable time)

thanks a lot, I like your attitude too!

altough the design comes from Siberia, and partly from (North) Africa... I think that to Europe we got the fiddle only in the middle ages or so, from Africa, for some reason it seems that it didn't occur to people to bow the instruments, even though we had a lot of plucked strings instruments...
