The bloom was in direct early morning sunlight and the background was a dark deep growth of trees.

Outstanding pic. We have a different name for it, but just now I can't remember what it is to share it with you.

I remember, we called them Rose of Sharon, if it was a bush the flower was on, and hollyhocks if it was a plant that died back to the ground each winter. You've no idea how it bothered me not remembering at the time. then today out it pops. great pic of the flower, whatever it is called.

Thanks and thanks for the information. I guess it must be more like a tree then a bush. It is much larger than a bush.Β

If it is what I remember there will be a seed pod shaped like an American football when they are done blooming. We used to have 'berry fights' with them. I know, there is no berry. The kid who owned the bushes called them berries, so they were berries. I think his were about ten feet high. Small tree, big bush. Whatever they are they are beautiful.

That's interesting, will try to follow them to see what happens as the blooms start to die.

They take 2 years to bloom, this is the 2nd year in the ground and I have big buds but
nothing opening yet...
Maybe if it warms up a bit that might make a difference...we are still 50 degrees at night
