Name: "Usurper King" Zant
Age: 24
Location: Luraiha
Social Standing: Royalty
Occupation: Unemployed
Notes: Former King of the Twili of Luraiha after a coup d'etat. Formerly thought to be acting of his own accord with possible influence of the Gerudo thief Ganondorf, further examination has revealed symptoms of Twilit Madness. After Luraiha's true ruler, Twilight Princess Midna, was restored to the throne, Zant has been kept in isolation and under observation for the past four to five years to determine the full depth of his madness. His days are normally spent sitting by the window, staring at the relaxing light of Luraiha's twin Sols.

Due to the time that has passed since Twilight Princess and the mental state he has been in since the ordeal, I felt Zant would likely undergo a redesign. I had a lot of fun with this. I wanted to create a design that reflects his current state. I wanted to give him an innocent, yet broken look, to make him look like he's been living a half-life since the ordeal, becoming what he so despised, but moreso as a way to cope with his madness without letting it take over.

Awww, poor Zant! So depressing, which just makes me like it so much.

I should really resume this story.Β  I had so much planned for it.Β  Zant only had a minor part in the initial concept, but I really want to give him a more crucial role if I can.

That would be a really interesting story. Something about Zant snapping like that intrigues me, for some reason.

Oh my, I seriously LOVE how you redesigned Zant here. He looks almost...badass. To put it bluntly. Anyway, I really love how you did his hair, it looks very nice. C: His clothing is wonderful, all that detail looks quite amazing, not to mention~ I think you did a very nice job in portraying his "innocent-yet broken" look, wonderful job with that as well!

I like to think Zant is still alive as well. That ending in TP threw me off a bit as well, and certainly leaves a lot to ponder about…I wonder. |C Well, hopefully there will be a sequel one of these days, I really hope so. There is room after all.

Wow... So, how'd Zant survive snapping his neck at the end of TP? Just curious.

TaiOshiro In reply to Joshing3the7Kokiri [2010-06-14 21:47:47 +0000 UTC]

You've read Neph's manga, right? I like the excuse that male Twili can dislocate their spines and survive. Honestly? I'm be more concerned with finding a way to explain how Zant survived being obliterated by Midna. But his claim that Ganondorf's power would bring him back over and over again certainly lends some aid to solve that problem.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Joshing3the7Kokiri In reply to TaiOshiro [2010-06-14 22:09:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes, indeed. But I can't recall that part specifically... Huh...
... xD True, on both accounts. I thought it was more his spirit - not yet resurrected - that had severed their joint connection to life.
However... If Zant survived, and Ganondorf died... wouldn't that mean that the Triforce of Power left Ganondorf and entered Zant? Or would it have been separated, like the T of Courage in WW?

Going by the way I've written my religion for the Zelda fandom, it went off to find the next Ganondorf incarnation.

Joshing3the7Kokiri In reply to TaiOshiro [2010-06-16 04:35:04 +0000 UTC]

Then... where did it go until the next Ganondorf incarnation came to exist...?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TaiOshiro In reply to Joshing3the7Kokiri [2010-06-16 09:45:56 +0000 UTC]

It likely dematerializes, existing on the ethereal plain in scattered bits, waiting to rematerialize when the next incarnation is born.

Clever idea, building off of the existing character.

TaiOshiro In reply to Nitrinoxus [2010-06-13 17:37:57 +0000 UTC]

I was already planning it, for both him and Midna. Zant's hyperactive "madness" just fit all too well with the story writing. I'm just hoping that Zant fans don't object too much to my portrayal of him. I'm really having fun with it, though. I've always found Zant to be a fun character. And I love looking into character psyches way too much.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nitrinoxus In reply to TaiOshiro [2010-06-13 17:46:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I really loved Zant's over-the-top insanity, especially towards the end of the game. But for all of that enjoyable madness, I felt that there wasn't enough development of the character. He wanted power, but his motive wasn't entirely clear; I also felt there should've been more looks back at the events that led up to the invasion of Hyrule. We see Zant stumbling out onto the balcony, where he meets Ganondorf, but we don't see anything that happened before that.

I don't object at all; in fact, I'm looking forward to how you portray him.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TaiOshiro In reply to Nitrinoxus [2010-06-13 18:02:13 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. My main inspiration for the story was that the perpetual Twilight drove some of its inhabitants mad. Since Zant fits the bill quite well, he fits a crucial role, however brief it may be, even though I was originally hoping to make it a purely OC-based story. I like it better this way, though... I like having the opportunity to work with such a colorful, though underdeveloped character, being able to give my own interpretation of his personage.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nitrinoxus In reply to TaiOshiro [2010-06-14 02:30:20 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I can see how that oppressive twilight could drive one mad. Either get used to it, like Midna did, or you'll lose your mind.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TaiOshiro In reply to Nitrinoxus [2010-06-14 17:16:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, though I wonder if it's not so much that the twilight is oppressive as the fact that it is always present I think? It's a lot like how people go mad in the areas in the far north that get a few days of sunlight or nighttime at a time. It messes with our heads, with our sleep schedules... some people are able to handle it, which is why most of the Twili were content with it, were so mentally and emotionally sated by it that they felt not even the slightest hint of desire (going by what Zant said). But some people would naturally be driven insane by it, by the fact that it's constantly there, never changing. Some people just need the change in order to regulate their minds.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nitrinoxus In reply to TaiOshiro [2010-06-15 06:16:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've heard of that illness, if it can be called that. Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD for short (clever contraction). When I say oppressive, I mean only when it's prevalent, as you said. I mean, let's be honest: looking at the sunset is a classic romantic clichΓ©, and the hour or so between sunset and nighttime has one of the most beautiful skylines accompanying it. But too much of any good thing is bad for you.
