In general, Sola is a team player who meshes well with all sorts of people thanks to an agreeable disposition and natural inclination towards a gentle brand of kindness. With community and family having been cornerstones of her life, she genuinely cares about those around her, and feels invested in the well being of her friends and family. It comes naturally to see the good in people and be generally optimistic about most things, and so all in all she gives off a somewhat plain girl-next-door vibe. But she's secretly a jealous person who resents how generic and forgettable she is compared to stronger personalities, and finds herself imitating others more often than she'd care to admit. Part of the motivation to copy others is a need for attention-- and she hopes that traits that draw eyes in others will have the same effect if she emulates them. In the same vein, as someone who dwells more often on what she doesn't have rather than what she does, she tends to fixate on things and people in an obsessive sort of way that makes her frightfully possessive of them. She dreads being ignored or having things that she views as belonging to her taken away, and can become quite volatile when she feels she has been wronged-- either by others or the subject itself.

Background:
A small idyllic village was the place Sola called home- the type where everyone knew everyone and your neighbors were like family. In a place like this, secrets were basically public knowledge and so naturally, everyone knew about the poor troubled house on the hill. Mental illness plagued Sola's single mother, who cycled through stages of highs and lows. Though her own memory of it is vague, she heard that it grew clear her mother was incapable of adequately caring for the young Sola, and at 3 years of age, was adopted by another family in town. She gained a happy household, and an elder sibling to go with her two parents, while her mother was sent away by faceless representatives of the state. Though the initial adjustment was hard, it helped immensely that she and her new sister got along swimmingly, spending their time playing together in forests and lakes near their home. They helped their parents where they could, and soon seeing how successful Sola's integration had been, the family added a third child to the mix.

Her younger brother however, was a far more demanding child; he was fussy as a baby and only grew more obnoxious as they aged. He commanded the spotlight, and she felt the distantly familiar vestiges of neglect nagging at her. The situation only worsened with the addition of another child, and she began to feel suffocated, acting out in uncharacteristically rebellious ways in her desperation for some kind of change.

That opportunity came with the letter of acceptance to Nielssen Academy. It was a chance for her to escape the life of monotony that had been built around her, a place where she would forever be trapped in mediocrity and overshadowed by the needs of her younger siblings. The deal was sweetened by the fact that her elder sister (who had always favored Sola anyway) had been invited as well- the grade system leaving her younger siblings too young to ever come close to attending the school alongside them. She jumped at the opportunity, and became even more invested when it became clear that the headmaster had Great Things in store for their futures-- literally and figuratively. She fully intends to wholeheartedly thrown herself into The Cause and becoming useful, if not indispensable.
