Description Ladd Russo and his lovely lady Lua from my favorite anime, Baccano!

Colored version of a lineart I submitted a couple of weeks ago. I finally got around to coloring it... I love winter break

I love your line art a lot! Such clean, varied lines that suggest shadows and light feathers The characters are also very well done, pose- and expression-wise!

One suggestion I can give is to darken the colors and create more contrast between the characters and the background; since you're using watercolor, you can also try layering a few glazes of different hues to make the colors more lively (right now it looks a bit washed out).

But amazing work nevertheless! Keep it up

So much white, aw! I like the edge the rifle brings to the image. Hmm, I wonder what just a little bit more black/shadows in the creases would've done to the colour composition. It's eyecatching as it is, though.

Thanks! Good point on the shadows. I think it would have added more pop, but I'm always a bit (over?) cautious about over-inking pictures I plan to color... there's really no turning back working on paper lol

Yeah. I know at the finishing stage you tend to get a bit careful, for a reason. Ohh, for some reason I thought this was digital! What did you color it with, aquarelle?

Really? That's kind of flattering It's colored with Sakura brand watercolors, the same thing I've been using since elementary school lol.

There is one word to describe this: Gorgeous.
So many little details, and the poses are very dynamic for two people sitting. You show a great control of colours too, since you have a limited palate and still manage to have an awesome range. Also, let me mention that I love the fact this is done traditionally. I see a lot of digitally-done art, and I do it a lot myself, so seeing traditional art (of Baccano!, none the less!) is refreshing on so many levels.
Ladd's expression is quite Ladd-esque, and Lua has her usual half-gone smile. Everything here comes together to make on hell of a gorgeous picture <3

Wow, thanks so much for the detailed comment !!

I'm really happy that you think the poses are dynamic enough because I love drawing people sitting around (as I myself love simply sitting around) but I'm always worried they're not interesting enough!

I don't know what happened with this picture, but everything just seemed to work out. I love watercolors, but I feel ambivalent about many of the ones I do because I don't plan the color scheme enough and there's always one or two colors in the picture that end up REALLY bothering me. That's one giant advantage of digital art that I wish there was a way to harness in traditional media like watercolors But alas, I don't work digitally much. I didn't have a computer for the longest time in childhood when I was messing around with paints and pencils and now I don't even know where to start digitally lol.

You're very welcome!

Oh, absolutely. The day we can combine the fun of traditional with the ease of digital will be a great day. I actually envy you for keeping with the traditional style. That was how I started out, but I just drifted into digital media, and my traditional skills are deteriorating. Guess it's time to start practicing again!

Ah, sorry about that bit, guns have never been my forte I used a picture from an old ad I found while googling something vague like "1920's guns," and now I can't seem to find it.

Thanks for the comment though!

I almost bought a 'Mosin Nagant' while at a gun show the other day. Get this, bolt action working and all the total price came to 179 dollars. The rifle was manufactured in 1939, served in Austria, and included the original bayonet. If you're ever looking for guns I have your back!
