Akarai is one of those who reason that the end justifies the means; and the end he's trying to achieve is to get Nick to come to terms with the fact that staying quiet when you really have something to say is not a fulfilling life, albeit with... questionable methods
And really, the reason Akarai's a little ticked off is because he can't stand to see people devaluing themselves and wants to help. Also, Rest in pieces Tabimasu...

I don't think there's cause for you to explain Arakai's methods. I could see it's an act of tough love, although killing Tabimasu may have been overly dramatic of him. XDĀ

*Whew*, now that's a relief! I was somewhat worried everyone would just assume Akarai doesn't like Nick or went completely mental (Then again the title of this strip is "The Mental Fox", so uh...)

Looks great man! Again I love the amount of life and character you put into your... well, characters. This seems pretty on point for Nick too. I wish I had something more original to say, lol. Just know I love this a lot. The background too in the first panel is well done. Great job!

You know, as I have been reading a bit about Shin Megami Tensei games, including its Persona subseries, this scene really reminds me of that, what's with Akarai being a Shadow who tries to convince Nick in place of the real self to accept their hidden character, or should I quote, repressed self
(With all said, now I'm starting to dread if ever it may ever pass that my kids show up in Akarai's Menta-list)

Ah, but you see, I believe that Nick's supressed self IS his true self! It is my belief that this timid and apologetic Nick that we see is the result of years of not speaking his mind and feeling anxious and that his true self is the confident and accomplished athlete he is on the track. It is on that basis thst Akarai is trying to coax that boldness out by making Nick face the facts. Granted, merely stating the facts would have worked, but come on, I'm trying to make psychology interesting here
Whaaaaat? Now why on earth would Akarai need to give your chatacters a tune up? Unless they aren't being... honest with themselves? Do you have a guilty conscious, hm? Do want some TEA?!

Haha, indeed I was spot on in involving the Persona games into this, because Shadows, the so-called repressed self, loves to claim that they ARE the true self (I mean, their battle cry IS literally "I am Shadow, the true self")
Anyway, back on the comment reply.... well, true. I guess some people simply think they're not that good at showing off, and Nick thus prefers to let his legs do the talking (.... preferably without breaking a few ribs, but that's probably what Nes would instead do
And well, I guess sometimes I just love to guess. In fact, as a little hint, I'm currently drawing something about LZ that might put him in Akarai's radar.... provided I wasn't being TOO subtle about it as I often do
