These look AMAZING!!! And I don't think I put anywhere that I modeled the head after literally the same three species (Smilodon, Thylacine, and Andrewsarchus) pretty much some of my fav 'extinct' (Thyalcine I'm looking at you) animals!

They're my favorites too!!! I could see the influence the moment I started my scribbles.... didn't really dawn on me til then. XD

I looked up many, many examples of all three while I was sketching to get an accurate-as-possible representation of all the angles. :'3 My favorites of the three would definitely be the Andrewsarchus... that beast is just so fabulous! Buuuuut.... yours is even more so~

I had an absolute blast designing the tack too..... XD

I remember watching a BBC program, it might've been Walking with Prehistoric Beasts, it's been so long, lol, that had the Andrewsarchus in it and I was sold. Instant favorite! But it's also hard to find references without seeing some artists interpretation, unless you're looking directly at the skull and making your ownXD

The tack is awesome as well!! I'm terrible with tack designing.

True, that.... XD This is one of my favorite renditions - www.thefossilforum.com/uploads… X'3

Thank you! I LOVE designing tack... and this post-apoc world... well, gives the ability to be quite inventive. X3 I LOVE it!

I love that!

And I love post apocalyptic type settings for that reason, you can be inventive^^

YES!

Oh! Been meaning to ask: What's the policy on.... non-arpg/group specific pets? Like, in order to be able to draw my rider with a falconry bird, do I have to earn one as an official companion? Find one while exploring, etc? Or are the find-able pets limited to the wisps, and others are... 'free'... I guess would be one way to put it?

If it's not a wisp, it's free. Wisps are the only findable companion the group will have so any other pets are up to you

Thanks!!!

I absolutely love the long jaw... makes much more sense than a smilodon, who, by the looks of things, can't open it's jaw enough to bite with those sabers in the way. These guys on the other hand.... definitely have a wide enough bite.... XD

OH YEAH! CHOMP! and it's all over

I actually heard smilodon sabers were rather impractical and not just because of their size - they were so fragile that they couldn't use them that much because they might break them O.o I think it was a BBC special that said that XD -suddenly wants to watch that again-

Huh.. those guys were impractical all the way around then! XD

Thylacine + Smilodon = Gorgonopsid?

TalonV In reply to LucaShewolf [2017-05-03 12:39:29 +0000 UTC]

Naw, not exactly, but I used those as reference points for drawing the unique jaw. X3 I was having trouble putting the anatomy together with the jaws open, so I looked to a few creatures I knew could open their jaws wide like that.

i love these guys so much!

+ Andrewsarchus

I actually used the Andrewsarchus as a reference for the head of these babies, plus some thylacine and smilodon references. No gorgonopsid tho, lol.
