It was here in the night that Edna whispered fables to the children of the blackbird god, stories of Mor and Awyr, the wolf mother and wolf daughter who wandered these plains during the dusk and dawn. It told of the desperate mother, the slain and lifeless child, and of a powerful young Eruhan so moved by the mother’s love that he granted her the ability to walk between realms, to walk among the living when the sun shone and to join Awyr beneath the current when the moon rose.
“Sometimes,” said Edna, “you can hear them, softly, in the distance. They speak of things to come far beyond the horizon where they meet. Some call this the language of the leaves.”
