Description
An alternate colouring of the second version of my standard Atari 2600 joystick controller drawing, but with added shadow for that dotted circle thing around the stick.The Atari XE Game System is also abbreviated as "Atari XEGS".

why did the XEGS, released in the late 80s,get a cheap recolor of a joystick from the 70s? wouldn't it make more sense to give it a joystic with like, more buttons? or an NES/Atari7800/Master System-style Gamepad?

I suspect because they wanted to keep the design because of its significance but honestly I don't really know. That's the thing I thought of though when I wondered about the same thing, since having 2 buttons would greatly increase the types of games that the joystick could be used for.
Also the colouring reminds me of the Commodore 64 joystick.

Or maybe they were cost-cutting with the joystick... I would have suggested a surplus but seeing how popular the 2600 was I kinda doubt it...
