why did the XEGS, released in the late 80s,get a cheap recolor of a joystick from the 70s? wouldn't it make more sense to give it a joystic with like, more buttons? or an NES/Atari7800/Master System-style Gamepad?

I suspect because they wanted to keep the design because of its significance but honestly I don't really know. That's the thing I thought of though when I wondered about the same thing, since having 2 buttons would greatly increase the types of games that the joystick could be used for.
Also the colouring reminds me of the Commodore 64 joystick.
