Description Let me introduce to you the emoti-guard 600.

I can't believe it worked like it should but suddenly I had the right idea how it might work – and it did! YAY!

As you may have guessed – the name is what you see:
An emote guard with a hat in the style of those well known bearskins . And the number tells you how much emotes were needed to create it. I know it because at first they all had their own layer to be able to push them wherever I want

Made it for the August EMTC Contest „Hats!“ from  ~  YAY!  and it became a

I can't believe you are able to move 600 emotes separately????!!!! You should be a DD. How do i suggest someone for that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TanteTabata In reply to Radda11 [2013-08-20 13:32:57 +0000 UTC]

If you want to be able to push them around separately until they find their place to stay you need to do so

Thanks a lot, but I know that I am far away from a DD with my level of skills – there's still soo much to learn for me and I am really slow.

But I am really really glad you like it.

you had to individually move SIX HUNDRED individual emotes????

major props, man.

TanteTabata In reply to Effervescentish [2013-08-09 01:27:47 +0000 UTC]

Yepp!
I had in mind that they need to become evenly distributed, wanted to do a kind of shading by using darker emotes  from the same/similar colour at the edges and behind those in front and I wanted to animate them in the end (to behave like when looking at an ants-nest) but didn't know how that is to be done when I started.
So I had to be able to push them seperatly or change them until everything fits before I could merge them in groups.

I am silly - but it was fun.

oh my goodness

my brain hurts just trying to imagine trying to move them all. I get frustrated when I get over 15ish frames I have to animate

600 is just inconceivable to me holy cow.

I had the same problems when I started with "bigger" animations, but then I discovered the group-folders for layers im my program and everything changed for me.
Sorting the layers in different group-folders (for separate regions) but still in the same file helped a lot here, too.

Nonetheless this hat still was huge in the beginning and when I started I wasn't sure if I will be able to make it.

woweewow and group folders? Could you tell me or link me to a tutorial on how to do that? I'm still an amateur at best when it comes to GIMP. I usually just lock the different layers together then move them, but that can get tedious when you have to move more than one emote per frame.

Oh yeah, totally understand. I probably would've given up half way through....although I probably never would have gotten the idea in the first place haha

is a good start to search for all things about emotes and how to do them. The community of the emoticonists is a friendly one and there will always be someone for you to help if you ask.

There are some special groups for us GIMPers here on DevArt, too (you can find them easily by using the search function).

And of course you can ask me, too. Just send me a note and I'll try my best to help ~ or find someone, who might be able to do so
