I think I like this version! I know it probably had shorter legs as it didn't need to run as much as other carnivores in the region, but it still would've had to stand and rear up to face down the many carnivorous therapods (and predatory animals in general) that it shared the region with.

Tapwing, do you know if the devs are considering this?
I thought i heard that they wanted to redo the spino.

Perfecct balance between the IRL Aquatic crocodile Spinosaurys and the Jurassic Park Bipedal Spino.

Either it's a magna or a redesign of the spino when implemented for survival

I honestly think this should be the replacement for the Spinosaurus in general. At least something like it.

But the M spine is also accurate to our current understanding of the animal, no?

Except it's not accurate at all. Its forearms couldn't rotate like ours can and thus couldn't plant their hands on the ground, and neither wrists or their shoulders were built to bear weight.

GaryLight In reply to DOTB18 [2018-08-22 06:48:28 +0000 UTC]
knuckle walking would be the answer to that. It's more believable than that it can somehow support its upper body up with only the hind legs.

DOTB18 In reply to GaryLight [2018-08-22 11:45:33 +0000 UTC]
Not really. As I said before, there's nothing about Spinosaurus' arms that are adapted for quadrupedal walking; its fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders and even its neck simply weren't built to take the stresses involved. It couldn't even move its shoulders independently because its collarbones had fused together into a wishbone.
Plus, recent studies have shown that its center of mass was right in front of the hips, due to hollow bones and air sacs lightening the front half as well as a heavy tail (people tend to underestimate just how beefy dinosaur tails really are), so it could balance on its hindlegs just fine.

It's too heavy to be carried by those hind legs

Did you even read what that guy just told you? The anatomy of spinosaurus would make it impossible for it to walk on all 4s

>Is just told that spinosaurus wasn’t built for knuckle-walking
>Still believes spinosaurus walked on all 4s because “it was too heavy”
Yeah, Abelisaurids were also heavy, but some of them had really short hind limbs and extremely short arms. How did they walk?

I’m not referring to the drawing, and i’m not a jurassic park fanboy either, all i said is that you simply have to go look it up on your own. I’m only saying the facts here, and if you think that a trey the explainer video from 2015 is still 100% accurate, then maybe you need to consider updating your current knowledge on spinosaurid anatomy.

badant12 In reply to FeatherNerd [2018-08-27 17:21:35 +0000 UTC]
no, im sorry for calling you that btw, i reagret it, and sure trey has made mistakes but there hasn't been any other big changes to the spino from what i know, also please explain your theory, i'd love to hear!<3

FeatherNerd In reply to badant12 [2018-08-27 22:07:41 +0000 UTC]
There haven’t been any changes to the spino, but when people suggested the 4-legged theory nobody payed attention to the fact that these animals
1)couldn’t pronate their wrists up to 90 degrees so it’d be impossible for them to knuckle-walk
2)they could not support their weight on their front limbs
Nobody depicts spinosaurus walking at 4 nowadays anyway, so it’s not just me who’s gotten over the quadruped spino theory, it’s everyone. But i’m no spinosaurid expert, you could always ask someone who knows more than i do.

The M spine is very realistic though... Lol. Like on fucking point.
This entire thing is quite close to what's been described in current research.
I think the body is a little shorter and the legs longer but that's it. LOL.
Which is barely a change compared to most iterations.
Tbh you did a good job.
