Description A Sith Witch, looking rather malevolent.

I itterated on the design of this character quite a lot. I threw the background together adhoc as I didnt want to leave it blank.

CS4
About 15 hours total
Some reference used (pose, saber hilt)

Anyone else looking forward to Bioware's Old Republic? Im not a massive Star Wars fan, but I was so impressed with Mass Effect 1 and 2 that I'll have to give it a try.

you pulled it off amazingly! The eye's in a drawing is the hardest to capture and you did it wonderfully

Me likely

I'm taking a basic photoshop class where we use CS4 and am barely able to get past MS paint looking artwork, any advice you can offer on good tools to use for work like this in the areas of shading/blending?

Im still a novice and I've been trying to learn for two years so I know how you feel.

Tools - Wacom tablet for sure. Even a basic entry level 6x4 inch tablet is good.

As for shading/blending. I just use the basic photshop hard round brush most of the time, with opacity set to pen preasure. You can make light or heavy strokes that way. Sometimes I'll use a soft round airbrush on an overlay layer for making things darker.

I use some custom brushes for things such as clouds/sky/environment. Every once in a while I use the blur tool a little bit, but only for certain materials. You have to be careful not to overdo it.

Also: Dont get discouraged if you make something that looks bad. Its all a learning process.

Yeah well I have no pad, fingers crossed for x-mas, and techniqually no copy of photoshop, I only get use use it in the school lab, thanks for taking the time though, I've been trying in vain to figure out combining the blend tool with multiple layers and getting rediculously confused so this was a big help, fingers crossed for a copy of photoshop for x-mas too.

I do believe you can download Photoshop 7 for free use. It doesnt have all the bells and whistles, but you can do everything I described with it.

Possibly, I did download GIMP a while ago to try it out, it's pretty similar to photoshop just a bit downgraded, got to get the tablet first though, got a suggestion for a reliable brand/model?

Well I only have experience with Wacom tablets so I can only recommend them. I started out with a Wacom Bamboo Fun 6x4 tablet.

You might be able to find it somewhere else cheaper. This is the previous generation model, which is still good. The new generation costs a lot more.
