Description Here is a Redwall otter I did. First non-photoshop picture in quite a while. The scan didn't do very well and some parts were brighter that they should have been (such as clothing), so I did have to darken them in Photoshop.

I'm glad at how parts of it turned out. I am not sure if the legs are quite right for the species, but oh well.

I will be coloring this in photoshop.

Oh, he's really cute! XD But then, the otters were always my favorite goodies. I really like the texture on his fur. Scanners are a bit fussy when it comes to scanning pencils, that's always struck me as unfortunately because pieces like this are probably best seen in full detail. Aw well, it's great anyway :3 The legs are about right for an anthro otter. Their real legs are a bit too stubby and awkward for bipedial transportion so you gotta change them up a bit and you did that real well.

Is this an original character? Or just a random Redwall otter?

Wow, thanks for the long comment! (I like these the best)

Glad you like him. Yeah, he is an original character, er...at least I try to make him as original as I can. As for the fuzziness, it may be partly the scanner, but also could be because I dragged my hang across the picture a few too many times. Haha.

As for the legs, you do have a point there. If I did use the real legs, it might look awkward as you said.

But once again, thank you for the comment. And BIG thank you for the watch. Your my tenth watcher. Been waiting a long time for that.

No problem :3 I love long comments too. I've written some epic ones in my day XD I'll flick through your gallery later (when I have time/energy XD) and write you some nice long comments :3

XD no worries, I do that all time. I have a tendency to detail my picture right to left for some reason which will usually smudge it all up by the time I'm done (since I'm right-handed and all XD) It looks great even if you did accidentally smudge it up a bit :3 it's not very noticable, in anycase.

No problem, darling You really deserve it. I reckon you're just under exposed here on DA, because your art is really great. You ought to have more watchers XD well, they'll come. Your Redwall work is great, you're sure to attract a lot of Redwall fans coming to watch you soon. I really love the fact that you draw your own poses and scenes instead of copying the book covers. I really respect that :3
But I should stop rambling because this doesn't have much to do with the image I'm commenting on XD

It's okay, I like chatting.

I just got some of my new work posted over at the Redwall Club. Hopefully I can get some exposure from that. I jumped 20-ish pageviews today. o.O

When you look through my gallery though, please ignore the older stuff. I wish I could put it in a folder and do away with hit, haha. But unfourtunally even scraps show up in my gallery with this new version of DA. I guess on the plus side, you can see how much I've improved.

I don't see why some people copy or even trace book covers and what-not. The reason I have improved so much I think is because I never have traced or copied from book covers. Challenging yourself is the only way you can improve, but I know you know that already. x] The downside is that I've gone through a half-ton of erasers.

I am pretty busy right now. Lots of other things I am doing on the internet. Incase I forget, remind me to look through your gallery later so I can comment, fav etc.

Fantastic You'll get a bit of the recognition you deserve :3

'kay, I will. You CAN put them in a folder, actually. If you hop on over to your message center and look under the My Account tab (sometimes on the rigth hand side, sometimes on the bottom of the page, depending on how fickle DA is being XD) for a link that says "Manage My Gallery". In there you'll see another link titled "Deviation Storage". Click that and you're brought to a page with a nice list of your deviation with little check boxes next to them. Simple click the check boxes of the images you wish to hide and then click the "Move Selected to Storage" button. And the art you don't want seen is hidden
Of course you may already know about it. I just know it took me 2 years to realize it was even a possibility XD

I suggest keeping the old art up for comparison. I have a few of my old art up so people can see how I've improved over the years (but then, I have 200 deviations in storage XD so I'm one to talk).

Those are my thoughts exactly! I copied official art when I was 10 or so, but at the same time I also invented my own poses. It's hard to improve when you're just copying because you're not thinking, and thinking/learning is what makes you improve (in my opinion). You're just kind of mindlessly mimicking. That never really seemed fun to me, I could never be proud of copying something. You only really grow and improve if you're working to grow and improve. But now I'm just talking circles XD I'm glad we agree on this!

Me too XD I'm a bit internet multi-tasker. I'll be sure to do that, then! XD

I added it in Photoshop. The only signature I have is one that uses my initials, but I don't put it on any work that I post on this DA account.

I guess the legs are all-right for the species.. I'm not sure how many otters I've seen walking upright Nice job though!

Thank you. I haven't seen any six-foot otters either.

ahhh I like the details of the legs I do, you use a pencil?

Targad In reply to Retsumoto [2006-07-06 16:26:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. Yes I use pencil. Entirely done with an HB pencil, although I think I could have used a darker lead in some places. Pencil is my favorite medium since I think I am best with it.

If you haven't seen my other DA account, I post all my car drawings there. (need to update, got a few more done)

Feel free to take a look.

Oops. And the point to me giving you that link is because all my recent drawings are done with pencil. Just to kind of "show off" if you don't mind.
