---------------------------

Background: The YB-1 'Lion' is an old but reliable armored personnel carrier in service with the IRS military. It was initially developed in 2045 for use by the PLA of China and had its first taste of combat in 2048, when the Japanese Imperial Army attempted to invade China again. Realising that Japan could never become a truly peaceful civilization, China and Singapore decided to annex the country and crush its people in such a way that they may never harbour imperialist ambitions against its other Asian counterparts ever again. The infamous and controversial 2049 Blitz saw the large scale invasion of Japan, with China forming the bulk of the military strike force and Singapore providing auxiliary support with elite teams of commandos. Fleets of YB-1s transported battalions of PLA troops stormed deep into the heart of Imperial territories and were instrumental to the war effort. Subsequently they faced Western forces in Japan as they defended their newly acquired prize and after driving them off, the YB-1s were also deployed in the United States of America alongside its allies to finish off the United Nations once and for all. When the Interstellar Republic of Singapore was first formed, military forces of its former member states had to be completely standardized. Fortunately, the newly appointed Autarch saw much value in the YB-1 as a potential Armored Personnel Carrier for the IRS Military and commissioned it to be refurbished. The YB-1 proved itself useful as it was fuel efficient, fast and easy to deploy on almost any type of planet. It continued its service in the IRS, seeing through major conflicts such as the 2070 Alliance Invasion and the Nagron War. After the war, the YB-1 were given tremendous amount of upgrades and redesigns. It received a set of new armor and engines, making it more durable and faster in combat. Still in active service, the YB-1 'Lion' remains and the well-respected APC of the IRS Military and many local colonial militias and fleets of them are also present in non-military organizations, utilized as ambulances and transport vehicles for humanitarian and commercial purposes.

Roles and Tactics: As an APC, the YB-1 is mainly designed to transport infantry and provide them protection from small-arms fire, heavy machine guns, shrapnel and rockets. The presence of a remote-controlled 20mm Autocannon also allows them to provide anti-infantry support to advancing forces, especially those with anti-armor weaponry. The YB-1s are either deployed in large numbers alongside tanks in large armored assaults where they release their passengers to finish off any surviving enemy after the initial attack or in small convoys to operate easily in dense, tightly packed areas like those of urban population centres or thick jungles. They may conduct surprise ambushes on unsuspecting enemies and then drop off their infantry behind enemy lines to destroy strategic assets such as command centres, defensive emplacements, artillery positions and sabotaging supply lines to pave way for the main assault force. The YB-1 is an integral part of the mechanized infantry force and works best when in concert with other companies.

Armament: The YB-1 does not sport much firepower in its default configuration, since it needs the internal space to house passengers rather than ammunition and other complex firing control systems. For its anti-infantry roles, it has the remote-controlled 20mm Autocannon for the job. Able to spew out 500 rounds per minute, the Autocannon can easily massacre entire groups of infantry quickly and the firepower of its munitions enables it to take out lightly armored vehicles and significantly endanger enemy aircraft such as helicopters and VTOLs. For extra defence against enemy infantry, the YB-1 can fire its front-mounted machine gun operated by the Vehicle Commander of the crew. 5 firing ports on each side of the vehicle allows passengers to fire from the inside of the APC, adding to its firepower and protection from flanking infantry.

Armor: The YB-1 Lion is constructed mainly out of Tryomite Composites, with thickest concentrations found on the front, the main body and the bottom of the vehicle. This material is strong enough to deflect small arms fire, heavy machine gun calibres and withstand explosives such as rockets and mines. It can soak up a few rounds of energy-based fire before melting and to prevent this, the Aegis Energy-Repellent layers are electro-coated on the Composites, offering its abilities to dissipate and dispose of such attacks; lasers, plasma, microwave beams and even a small amount of anti-matter, to improve the armor protection of the YB-1. Armor packages can also be fitted on the vehicle and these are either extra Composites or advanced materials such as conventional ERA, Smart Armor and the highly sophisticated Repulsor Armor.

Mobility: As expected of the IRS's military vehicles, the YB-1 has excellent on road and off road capabilities. Able to reach top speeds of 95 KM/H on smooth roads and around 75 KM/H on rougher terrain, the YB-1 can quickly ferry its troops and cargo to and fro the battlefield, making it an instrumental vehicle in the field for ensuring that the forces are well-supplied and in fighting condition. This also makes them suitable for fast-paced assaults as it is able to keep up with other vehicles and get the troops at their destination in time. Their installed shock absorbers and Individual Wheel Suspension systems allow the YB-1s to traverse almost any kind of terrain and overcome battlefield obstacles like rubble. Equipment such as dozer blades can be mounted on for increase in off-road capability.

Power Plant and Engine: The YB-1 derives power from its Etherium Generators, which makes use of photosynthetic alien bacteria to produce electricity from its excess glucose stores. This electricity will be collected and transferred to superconducting wires where they will be distributed to various electronic components and systems that require them. Able to produce decent amount of energy for virtually an infinite amount of time, the Etherium Generator is the best power plant available as it is cheap and clean, as well as easier to maintain as it has few working mechanical parts compared to other, more complex power-generating methods. The YB-1 is propelled by the ETM-03, an electric turbine motor that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy that allows the vehicle to move. The ETM-03 is a well-respected piece of engineering, as it provides a lot of power to the YB-1 and is of decent cost.

Sensory Equipment: In the fast-paced combat environments of the 22nd Century, command, control and coordination alongside knowledge is the key to achieve a successful victory over the foe. For this the YB-1 needs all the advanced communications and sensory systems it can get its hands on. The YB-1 can detect enemies in a large radius with its radar systems and for a short period of time, it can boost its pulsations to detect cloaked enemies. It can then relay this information to other units so that they can eliminate the hiding units or avoid them completely. This vehicle constantly broadcasts and receives information from a large database of vital battlefield information known as the Integrated Information Network (IIN) where anything from the global map, locations of enemies and allies alike, terrain and weather detail, mission objectives and image and video feeds from various sources, can be accessed. This allows the YB-1 to coordinate its movements with other units effectively and increasing the chances of a successful victory with minimal losses. It also has a high-band antenna for communicating with allies and commanders, ensuring that the crew stays updated about what is happening around them and should their allies need help, the crew can immediately respond quickly. The YB-1 has too little space for any A.Is to be installed onboard and instead uses a series of simpler softwares to help them in their job. These programs assist the crew in managing the information, running their computer systems, running self-diagnostics on the vehicle's various systems and assisting the Gunner by locking-on to his targets and automatically aiming the Autocannon at them, leaving the Gunner to simply press the trigger.

Defensive Measures: The YB-1 has smoke canister launchers mounted on the side and when activated, it fires out the canisters that will create an opaque cloud of smoke. This is not any ordinary smoke as they mimic the radio and infrared signatures of the vehicle, confusing enemy guided rockets and heat-seeking missiles. The opaque smoke also makes the YB-1 visually invisible, allowing it precious time to retreat to another safer location and fight some other day again.
