Assignment: Exact replica of a black/white photograph. Done by covering cold-press illustration board with charcoal and erasing away. SJSU Animation/Illustration, ANI 24.

I'm pleased with how this project turned out. Although I wasn't able to get the values exactly right, I think I did well differentiating hard and soft edges. I learned a lot about how to see negative shapes through this project as well as how different edge qualities will really make something look photo-realistic. Somehow, I grew to appreciate photo-realistic both more and less. Photo-realistic art takes a ton of time and patience... but it's really just negative shapes, edges, and value. Everyone thinks photo-realism is difficult, and it is, but not in the way people think it is.

In any case, this was my biggest accomplishment of my ANI 24 class.
