Description Assignment: Exact replica of a black/white photograph. Done by covering cold-press illustration board with charcoal and erasing away. SJSU Animation/Illustration, ANI 24.

I'm pleased with how this project turned out. Although I wasn't able to get the values exactly right, I think I did well differentiating hard and soft edges. I learned a lot about how to see negative shapes through this project as well as how different edge qualities will really make something look photo-realistic. Somehow, I grew to appreciate photo-realistic both more and less. Photo-realistic art takes a ton of time and patience... but it's really just negative shapes, edges, and value. Everyone thinks photo-realism is difficult, and it is, but not in the way people think it is.

In any case, this was my biggest accomplishment of my ANI 24 class.

Apologies for the really shitty photograph quality. My camera is terrible.
