Description (Don't ask me about the title, m'kay - I have no idea)

He sounds like the type who would totally dominate his paddock ^^

Edit: fixed his white heel - it was on the wrong foot because I flipped the image at the last minute

...

So...

How obvious is it that I really want a foal from this guy? XD

This is my bid to win a breeding slot to the stallion shown here, and subsequently, my first Chipmunk Faime foal (and probably only faime horse, since I'm overrun already, and I wouldn't even consider it but for the fact that they're CHIPMUNKS )

Details
Horse: BP's Cassanova's Monster
Owner: JumpingTheStorm
Image type: Breeding slot bid - Art Auction
Auction Information: fav.me/d72ixw3
Time: Hours. Lost count, really.
Layers: Yeah right - too many.

I would encourage you all to check it out, but my inner devil says no, so I at least have a chance of winning the spot to this adorable pony

Inspiration/ideas

As for the background, given we were allowed to go totally nuts with it, I really felt like doing cherry blossom trees. I really have a love for them, so I went with that. There's some lovely orchard pictures to be found, but nothing quite had the look I wanted - and it didn't help that I wasn't sure what it was I wanted until I saw it . I did eventually stumble onto the photo linked above, and after a little deliberation decided it was what I wanted. The greens were really vibrant, the trees were interesting and I really liked the cherry blossoms just bursting in the middle, so I decided I'd try it.

Process
I really hope it is obvious how much effort went in here. I was going through tons of brushes, experimenting with textures, overlays, patterns and all sorts to generate some of the feel of the photo (and some of my own). In the end, I was really happy with how most of the background came out. It was done nearly in one sitting.

Early on I decided that I liked the idea of a grazing image. I googled tons of miniature horse photos for the right one, and finally landed on a pose that was sweet, simple and - I don't even know - I just felt like it drew me in. The lineart and sketch took a while, but it was a blast to work on - minis have different proportions to most horses, so it was good for me on that level, too.

So basically, there's a handful of things in this that are not in my comfort zone, but I had a complete blast painting it anyway.

Backstory - This is more to do with me/the breed than the art, in case you wanted to skip ^^

So, I found a design that a friend of mine, ReQuay did for someone of a Faime Chipmunk foal. It was adorable, but that aside, it introduced me to the entire concept of a chipmunk mutation in HARPG.

Many may not know this, but Chipmunks are among the list of things I have that I truly have a love for (other things including but not limited to: Dalmatians, snowglobes, otters, dreamcatchers, Arabians, raccoons, Buckbeak...).

When I realised Chipmunk Faimes existed, so began my hunt to work out how to get my own. Breeding turned out to be my best option.

Fairly quickly, I was able to arrange a breeding slot to a mare, thanks to the kindness of her wonderful owner, and that leaves this as my plea for a stud.

I never really thought about miniature horses too much, but I have got a bit of a history with them in the real world, so now I can't wait to get one at Lakewood.

Wish me luck, guys ^^ (if you're not bidding yourselves or rooting for someone else. In which case, good luck to you, too )

trees and fences are my enemies lol

What a question XD A fair bit of experimenting and luck with a variety of foliage brushes. I'm usually pretty awful when it comes to trees, so it really is just a case of using a good photo as a reference and not being afraid to just try new things (always on new layers ). For the fence, I find them easier. I just used a simple airbrush to block in the shapes - posts in the ground, and then rails on a separate layer. Lock them both and then shade as you would anything else. Then you just have to get the shadow on the ground in there so it looks like the posts are grounded and not floating

Anyway, thank you so much for the comment, and I hope some of what I said helps a bit ^^

May I ask what you mean by block out the fence?
also curious may i know what brushes you used?

Tattered-Dreams In reply to KyraAkir [2014-01-22 03:18:05 +0000 UTC]

Really simple;  I just drew in the fence, in a single flat colour to get the right shapes. Meaning the posts had to be fairly thin and the same height and the rails the same width. The rails (top and bottom) also had to line up right.

As for brushes, I downloaded a few packs from dA a long time ago, and I've had them loaded up on PS since. That unfortunately means I no longer know which brushes are which, so I can't link you to any. But many foliage brushes will work just as well. It's just about experimenting. If y ou search dA, you should find some good ones

Ooh, wow Tatty! This is just amazing. It really is obvious it took you a great amount of effort to do this - it is insanely detailed. I adore those trees, and the little road that you can just see behind the fence. That pony looks adorable, too. I really hope you win, it's obvious you really want that foal Best of luck!!

Thank you so mugh

Haha, me and darn trees; but these were as much fun as they were hair-pulling-worthy XD I'm so thrilled you like all the details ("details" - the magic of texture brushes ) and I love the little road at the back, too ^^.

Monster is really cute, bless him (his little white heel is just diabetes inducing). Thanks again, and I'll be needing all that luck

No worries!

Texture brushes exist for a reason. You definitely made them work well here. But yes, trees can be frustrating! Though now I find them mostly fun, I remembered how I used to struggle.

Aww, thanks ^^ Texture brushes are great

Yeah; I still struggle with trees. Now and then they'll work out nicely enough, but at other times they still look appalling.

I can't even tell you how much I love this image!    It is so beautiful!  I can tell how much thought, work and effort you put into this - (in my opinion) you definitely deserve to win a breeding spot!  I adore the sweet, serene background ( your backgrounds!) and way this looks like just an everyday pasture image you could see on a drive through some gorgeous countryside... chipmunk pony or not.

You've drawn and painted Monster beautifully... I can only imagine how much his owner must be drooling over the image.

And you've sold me on chipmunks (for you)... I can see the inspiration that goes into this, and absolutely can not wait to see you get one of these beauties for yourself!  Sending lots and lots of luck your direction for a (hopeful/soon) chipmunk pony!!!

Thank you, thank you

I am so glad you like it! I definitely went to town and I hugely appreciate the lots of luck

That background was a bit of murder (me and trees ) but I'm really happy now its done, and I definitely liked that feel that you could spot the paddock while driving through the countryside, too ^^. And I do think Monster's owner liked how he came out so I'm hopeful It was well worth the fight I had with the greyscale XD

I reckon you definitely need a chipmunk one day, too *temps* but yep, I'm definitely hooked. Fingers are crossed tight - and thank you again!

LOL, no tempting me with any more horses... I already have too many to draw now.    Of course I'm loving each of them and couldn't bear to part with any of them.

And the background is stunning... definitely worth all the (murderous) work you put into it.  The whole thing just comes together so nicely!    I have a good feelin' about this one... it's gonna happen for you!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it! I hadn't quite gotten around to leaving a link on the auction journal for you, yet, so sorry about that ^^.

I've got my fingers crossed tight and just have to wait now

As for his personality- I really adore it, so I'm glad you think I got it okay. I'm aiming to make the foal (assuming I get one, whether with your stallion or in the future) a colt, and I always imagined he'd be the cheeky, too smart and cute for his own good type, and I can see parts of that in Monster

That's ok I get the mention anyway and I absolutely love it.

Good luck

Absolutely monster is based of my aunts mini/Shetland cross who is cheeky and an escape artist though he is very cute and knows he is lol

Tattered-Dreams In reply to JumpingTheStorm [2014-01-21 13:01:42 +0000 UTC]

I'm so glad to hear that ^^

I will be needing all that luck XD, thank you!

And that's adorable! Shetlands do seem to be good at escape and evade. And at using their cuteness against us I used to get a bus to school years ago, and I made friends with the driver and learned she bred miniature shetlands. I went over to see them a few times and there was a little cold there one year who was just the same. He'd play games in the field, too - follow in your steps, and the minute you turned to look at him, he'd stop in his tracks and pretend to be ignoring you, then he'd start up again. They're just so much fun ^^
