Description Average size: 14" at shoulder, 27" from nose to tail
Diet: nectar, fruit and vegetable juices
Variation: high; Colors, size and diets vary greatly by location
Flight: about as well as a chicken

With their equine head, dainty features and bright colors, these cat-sized dragons, sometimes called "butterfly" dragons for their color and love of flowers, are widely considered to be one of the more beautiful dragon species. Due to their small size, bright colors, easy temperament, minimal flight capabilities, and vegan diet, they are quite common and popular as pets, and are easy keepers for anyone with a high-walled garden. For those without a yard or who cant grow the dragons preferred flowers, they can be trained to live indoors on a diet of sugar water and fruit or vegetable juice. They can leap quite high, and will use their wings to glide from flower patch to flower patch. Wings are also used to deter predators and attract mates. They quite enjoy hummingbird feeders.

Avid breeders have caught and bred them to get brighter or more intericate patterns, easier diets (for some of the more exotic ones), and other desirable traits.

Make your own! Lineart for would-be breeders can be found [link] here, or adopt one here [link]

------------------x------------------

Boring technical stuff, medium: colored pencil and ink, patterns and color scheme are VERY loosely based off the [link] white peacock butterfly of the western US

Beautiful!

Their crest resemble a bit to that of the sea dragons, very beautiful species!

are they warm blooded creatures?
You're succesfully tempting me to fangirl all over your creatures

I felt like the back needed something, since the NFD got their fluff.

Theyre dragon/insect, dragons are usually reptilian and insects are...well...insects, so Im going with no, theyre cold bloods. They love to stretch out on the sidewalk and catch the sun with their big wings Why?

It looks gorgeous!

Nice! I was just curious, mainly about the texture of the NFD's fluff and thinking how might it feel to hug one

Well since youre scared of moths I doubt youve ever tried petting one, but they tend to have real fine soft fluffy hair all over them. I imagine thats what the dragon would feel like too.

Oh no, I tend to stay away from their path. Aw so it should be a nice cuddle pet

Why be afraid of them? They dont bite, theyre not poisonous, and most of them you can squish with your pinkie. Theyre fluffy, colorful and adorable, so whats so scary about them? I dont understand phobias...

I know xD That makes me feel a bit more pathetic. I'm able to catch scorpions with my bare hands, but I run away from a little harmless butterfly

I think it's because I relate them to a traumatic experience I had as a child. But i'm working on it, they're such amazing creatures. I should be apreciating them instead of shaking and running xDD

What traumatic experience could you have with a moth?? Theyre so harmless! a scorpion will hurt you much more, and they arent even fuzzy!

Face your fears! Be strong

It's not really about the moths xD they just happened to be there (in significant numbers!)

There was also one with butterflys, I was about 4 and walking with my mother. Somehow there was thousands of dead monarch's in the floor. So I was struggleing not to step on them (I find that cruel, even if they're dead xD) and I think my mom's hill got stuck on a hole in the floor or something so she started screaming. And daaaamn I was terrified. But I grew out of that xD so I should be able to face moths!

Well if theres nothing to be scared of then why be scared of them? Next time you see a moth go take a look at it You dont have to touch it if youre still scared, but see how close you can get. Look at the hairs, the patterns, the cute little antennae :3 You just might find them fascinating!

It's really nonsense to be scared of them.

So far I've made a little progress since last night I was brave enough to catch one in a jar. I watched it closely for a while, it surprised me it was really pretty. i still ran away when i let it go xDDD But that was a huge progress!
