Description
The Vreen are a highly sophisticated sentient race that have evolved from arthropod-like ancestors. Living on a planet who's atmosphere is rich in oxygen, they grew quickly and to a large size, ultimately using their superior intellects to dominate their planet's landscape. In a near mirror parallel to Human development, they evolved a space-faring culture that continued to expand and discover new systems and territories. They are the bureaucratic backbone of the Collusion.

In terms of social structure and cultural outlook, the Vreen are most similar to Earth's Facist governments, in particular the Nazi Third Reich. Emotion is strictly controlled and only expressed in specific ritual. Competition to excel in Vreen society is a near singular obsession. Individual intelligence and creativity, and to a lesser part, physical strength and agility, are highly admired. Those that fall short in Vreen society are swiftly trodden under heel, but those that excel on their own accord are viewed with great honor and fierce loyalty by their peers.

Vreen culture is dominated by the males of the species. Females have been 'down-bred' to produce as many young as possible, and males compete with each other for the rights to fertilize new clusters of young. The smaller pair of arms of Vreen males are used to clasp and stimulate their females during mating, and to expose such in public is considered obscene.

Vreen ears are placed high on their large head-crests. Their nostrils are placed on small tubes that radiate from their heads and neck. Breathing occurs through spiracles that allow air into large book-lungs on their chests. Their skin is hard and strong, a tribute to their ancient arthropod ancestors, however they have a lightweight inner skeleton, and their exoskeletons soften and redden at their joints and soft underbelly.

The Vreen are enthusaistic users of slavery and subject races. Their scientific arts excel at bioengineering, to the point of the creation of an entirely bioengineered race, the Grays. Grays and other races and life forms are viewed as inferior and their worth measured on what services can be offered to the Vreen.
