Description Appropriately enough, of an M4A3E8 Sherman, based of that recent movie "Fury" that starred the only PzKpfw VI still in running order, Bovington Tank Museum's Tiger 131, along with some minor actors.

lol
"along with some minor actors"
right you are, the ONLY true star of the movie was Tiger 131.Β

aye, but due to technical issues (some of the Shermans couldn't turn their turrets) and bias (cuz 'murica) the Tiger could only be used for that one scene. still, a remarkable feat that they could get the tank in a movie at all.

I like it only because it's amazingly rare to have films featuring actual tanks.

A better tank than most people give it credit for.Β

most people don't give it much credit because it doesn't have any outstanding feature other than being dependable and available in large numbers thanks to the American war machine. that's not a really sexy trait compared to the sloped armor of the T-34 series or the big guns on the German tanks.

But what many fail to appreciate is the logistics of warfare. The Shermans were expected to be built in the USA, and then shipped across the Atlantic or the Pacific, arrive and be received by the crews, and move under their own power across the deserts of North Africa, the hills of Sicily, the valleys of Italy, the countryside of France, the jungles of the Pacific and all the way to Germany, and Japan (if Operation Olympic went through).

Contrast this to the Germans, who overburdened their own logistics with complicated and unique tanks, each with their own required parts and servicing and maintenance needs, and could barely make it across half the distance a Sherman could cover without stressing the tank, handicapped as well by inexperienced crews and inadequate and damaged logistics.

As the saying goes:Β Amateurs talk about tactics, but professionals study logistics. But yeah, at the end of the day most people are gonna pick the sexy tank not the utilitarian.

Great drawing by the way. I love the simple beauty of this style of art.Β

i didn't care so much for the story and characters (other than gunner 'Bible' for some reason), i just want to appreciate the fact that there's a WW2 film featuring tanks (and an actual Tiger I).Β
