Description One who hunts the hunters.
Dogblood is an old cultist, recently granted the label of an arch-heretic for the multiple assaults he commited against the Ordo Hereticus and Ordo Malleus members. A former Cadian sniper, he fought against orks and did dirty work for his regiments commandment, until the moment he understood that the Imperium of Mankind doesn't need his services any more.
He's a cynical, relentless but patient killer. Upon converting to a small Nurgle cult, he immediately gained favor of his patron god, and through series of specific "immunisation" the cults sorceror carried out, became immune to pain.
Dogblood is not an ordinary traitor guardsman. As a sniper, he's highly individualistic, and prefers to work alone, testing his limits. He's also never satisfied with wipining out simple folk, and self-assigned himself a mission to act as a one-man force against the planetary's Adeptus Arbiter and the presend Ordos. This happened after his cult had been exterminated, leaving him alone, without friends, comrades and a strict target. Thusly, he began both his hunt after the Inquisition members and a long-ago disappered, barely known Nurglite artefact, native to the sector he operates in, that the local Ordo Malleus layed their hand upon.
He leads his hunt mostly in the Hives, as he was trained for urban fight. Dogblood has a remarkable ability to blend in not only with the scum of the Underhive, but even with the wealthy folk of the Higher Levels... No one knows how he does it considering his rather horrid visage, but it's from the palaces and rich aristocratic denizens from where he launched his most devastating attacks, bringing down highranking acolytes and neophytes.
Through these actions of deliberate destruction of the Inquisiton functioners, he became known to other chaos cults.

Maximus has a twisted personality. He appears to be extremely patient and rational. He is well-educated for a guardsman and his High Gothic speech is both fluent and intelligent, luring the listener in the venomous tenets of smartly constructed words that, in his sarcastic and mocking manner, speak only of heresy. Dogblood loves to talk, that, except torture is his only passion, and nothing is more leasing to him then to verbally taunt and abuse a helpless enemy.
It seems that nothing, even the prospect of being left at the mercy of Redemptionists (which happened during his first encounter with Inquisitor Cervious, when the latter had managed to capture him), can phase him out. Icy-cold water runs in the veins of a man, who is blind and deaf to the concepts of mercy, concience and morality.
But the truth is, that Dogblod is nothing that he appears to be. Behind this invincible facade, he is doubtful, broken and insanely sadistic. His worst fear is the thought that he can be turned into a servitor as a punishment for his crimes and heresty. Whilst hating the Imperium with all the remnants of his soul, he wishes to see its downfall, hopes for a victory - and hates himself for such hopes, well-knowing that all his struggles and fight will lead only to a dishonorable death.
This inner turmoil sometimes brusts out in despicable, atrocious acts of violence, when the man just lashes out at anything he can reach and turns it to bloody shreads with only his bare teeth and claws.
Also, over time, his face became so scarred after all the cuts he placed on it in the memory of his fallen comrades, that he was forced to partially cover it up.

Dogblood's not only my first wh40k fan char, but amongst others the most powered-up. Besides an immunity to pain, he can also summon nurglings inside himself (and vomit them out) so that they attack his opponents. His blood is highly acidic, enough to weaken most steel alloys. Physically he is capable of destroying an armed servitor, and would not hesitate attacking a Space marine.
Also a low-ranking psyker. Can make his mind impenetrable for another psyker and sometimes break into another persons mind.

Prefers using sniper guns and throwing knives, but is quite capable of handling any type of weapons. Has fast reactions and when attacking, moves with impressive speed. No augmantics present in his organism.

So, I finally finished the picture. It took me a long time, seeing that I rendered the textures by hand, but I'm overall very proud of the work. It may not be my best, but I'm very satisfied how it shows the character, exactly like I planned.
heh... Moar Chaos Cultists, lol! Ave, Lord of Decay! XD

Like the details, the poster and the background. I think this could actually be one of my favourites by you.
The background story is quite intresting and fits his expression, too.

The description of his personality is similiar to that of torturer, was this meant to be a self-character aswell?

Dude, this is freaking awesome, I love the amount of detail you put in this picture ((and nearly all your pictures XD )) and the backstory of this guy is just fantastic, I literally could imagine it all happening in my head almost as if it was a movie and me imagining what it would like with him puking out nurglings was just so damn cool but disgusting!. :>
But anyway dude, I know this is a sort of old piece but keep up the amazing work!

I love the insane detail. The nurgle symbol on his headband looks like yellow cysts on dead skin.

I guess he's supposed to be with that traitor guard from your blood tide comics?

Let us play hide and slay!

The bolts from our guns shall be as thick as flies on a corpse, our followers shall be as numerous as maggots on rotting flesh and news of our victory will spread through the armies of our enemies like a plague.

In the embrace of the great Nurgle, I am no longer afraid, for with His pestilential favour I have become that which I once most feared: Death.

I've been hunting the sauce on this pic for at least 30 years. I don't know why I never made the connection that it was your work until I saw your most recent sketch ( [link] ), but I guess I'm just kinda duuuuumb.

Now that I've found it, I just wanna tell you that this is hands-down my all-time favorite piece of 40k artwork, even among my mighty collection of 100+ images saved to this laptop. Out of all the official artwork, other fanworks, drawfaggotry, and other assorted artwork, this is seriously the best piece of 40k art I have ever seen. This picture converted me to Nurgle during my Slaanesh phase.

I especially like the subtlety of the expression. The picture speaks volumes and tells a story in posture and expression alone. The way he has the sniper rifle lowered, like he was using it moments before, and the expression, which registers so well in my mind that I can practically hear him go "Heh."

My own theory on what's happening in this picture is that he was tracking a commissar or some other big, important target along the battle-wrecked city, and just before he made his shot, something big, like a carnifex, came out of nowhere and did his job for him. That confusion, mixed with a sort of halfhearted amusement really speaks to me.

Alright, that's all the ego-stroking I've got in me. I just really, really like this picture and wanted to tell you that. If any of that up there came off as sarcasm, that's totally not my intent, this picture is just that goddamn good.

I'm especially fond of the composition of this picture. It has a succinct impression that the description below only adds to, without contradiction. If anything, it could use a nurgling.
The texture and colors tie in both with the grotesque smokey city he's perched up in, and the narrowness of the picture lends itself easily to a feeling of altitude.
Good picture. Faved.
