Spring, Year 764 of the New Age

Their eyes were what she dreaded the most. They could taunt, and yell all they’d like and she’d gotten used to the physical scars they tended to leave whenever she came around. Those deep dark eyes full of hatred always left her feeling empty. Her mother told her she was beautiful and to never let anyone tell her otherwise but they weren’t her mother. They didn’t care that they hurt her feelings or her body. To them she was nothing but a disappointment.

“I told you she wasn’t anything to look at.” The taller of the two, a dark colt said smugly while looking down to the other bully. “Downright ugly if you ask me.”

“Is it really true that she’s just a mudblood?” The paler fawn, a filly, asked looking almost as if she were disgusted by calling it a she. No filly should be so dark and gross.

“My brother says she is. So she has to be one. Isn’t that right ugly?” The pale bully turned away from it sticking out her tongue as if just looking at her made the hind sick.

“Go ‘way.” Her voice was soft, afraid that they’d do more to her. The two fawns exchanged taunts back and forth, all directed at her. The older colt had left a nasty bite on her ear, but all she’d wanted to do was get away. She wanted them to leave her alone but they wouldn't. They hated her just because she was different.

“What was that? Does the little stagling wanna fight?” His words promising more than just a simple bite that made the dark hind flinch. “Eww, are you really gonna touch it. What if it curses you or something.” She asked at his side, concern lacing her voice. It was barely noticable under the ill will directed at her.

“It ain’t gonna do that! ‘Sides just look at it, do ya really think it can curse me?” His laugh was short and loud. Towering over the ugly hind before standing on hind legs and using his front hooves to try and strike the thing down.

Clumsily the dark hind moved, narrowly avoiding his sharp hooves. She made no other sound as she lay where she'd fallen; the two fawns laughing before being called away. Watching them leave, her tears finally fell.

Her mother had always called her beautiful but was it only lies?
