History:

Conway one day found himself wandering out of the fog, with absolutely no idea how he got there. He couldn’t remember anything he had done prior to that moment, and wandered about in confusion for a bit before stumbling upon one of the farms on the outer edges of Andalusst. The couple there took him in, giving him food and shelter while helping him get his bearings. Wanting to repay them for their kindness, Conway began helping them around the farm, which he found he had quite the knack for. Eventually, the couple asked him to stay, and officially adopted him. They had always wanted children but never managed it, and Conway was welcomed into the family. For three years he lived with them, until the day Hawthorn came around.

Personality:

Conway is a hyper, easily distracted, cheerful little shinx. Good natured and kind hearted, Conway is always willing to help anyone in need. Combined with the fact that he is determined to prove himself, and brave to the point of recklessness, he has a bad habit of volunteering for tasks he should really leave to those more qualified. He’s calmed down some during his time on the farm, but is still prone to getting overexcited and carried away. His favorite thing to do is talk to strangers on the road, as often times he can hear incredible stories about the dungeons and lands beyond the fog. Even regular city folk can still have interesting tales to tell, and Conway is fascinated anytime he can learn anything new. Despite his comfortable life on the farm, Conway has a wanderlust that can’t be satisfied with such a stationary existence. He itches to see what lies beyond the farm, beyond the city, and beyond the fog.

History:

Hawthorn woke up one day sprawled out on the ground at the edge of the fog, with no clue how he’d gotten there. Shortly after waking up, he ran into a Mienfoo by the name of Maro. He stuck with him mostly for convenience, feeling the need to learn about the area and the people there before doing anything. They got along alright, though their relationship mostly consisted of bickering and one uping the other. Before too long, Hawthorn felt he had gathered enough intelligence to do fine on his own, and used the confusion caused by a confrontation with some unfriendlies on the road to give Maro the slip. It was shortly after that he happened by the farm Conway was living at, and the excitable shinx quickly waved him down, asking if he’d trade a story for a meal. Normally Hawthorn would have said no, but somehow he couldn’t just shoot down the request. He didn’t really have much to share, but Conway was enraptured all the same. There was an odd sort of companionship between them, and as annoying as Conway could be, Hawthorn still found himself enjoying his company all the same. He ended up hanging around the farm for a while, and the two formed a kind of subtle friendship.

Personality:

Hawthorn tends to stray on the morally grey side of things. He likes money, wealth, and power, and isn’t particularly concerned with how he comes across it. He doesn’t make friends easily, and tends to be somewhat closed off. Though he can be charming when he wants, more than likely it’s simply because he’s trying to get something from you. Hawthorn is big on collecting as much information as he can, and can be incredibly conniving. That said, he’s not particularly difficult to goad into a fight, and he can have a problem with his ego. Still, he’s usually fairly level headed, and prefers to have a plan before rushing into action.

Team Interactions

Though Hawthorn can’t explain why they initially felt drawn to each other, he must admit the two play well off each other. They can get on each other’s nerves, of course, as Conway’s optimism is sometimes a bit too much for Hawthorn, and Hawthorn frequently treats Conway as a little kid. Nevertheless, Hawthorn keeps Conway focused, and Conway helps keep Hawthorn from straying too far from the right side of the law. They tend to work well together, and arguments usually involve more along the lines of fond teasing than actual fighting. For example, Hawthorn insists on calling Conway "Connie," claiming Conway is too strong a name for a fluffy little thing like him. In return, Conway calls Hawthorn things like "Haw" or "Hawth," but never "Thorn" (which is what Hawthorn would prefer, as he thinks it sounds badass).

Comments

This is in fact my team from pmde. Not just the characters reused, but the actual same team having been sent into this universe. Eventually I plan on finishing drawing Mission 8 from pmde, which would explain how this happened. That said, it plays absolutely no bearing on this version of them, other than the fact that when they met, they felt some vague sort of connection. They will never remember their pasts, and nothing pmde related will ever play any part in pmdu. I just wasn’t ready to give up the characters.

While they will not remember any of this, their pasts as described in their pmde app and subsequent tasks/missions did help to build their current personality, so it is up to you if you feel interested enough to check it out.

Because this is such a minimal part of their story, if should not have any conflicts with pmdu canon as that unfolds. Still, I was very pleased to see that the fog can cause severe amnesia (Luke), so while these characters will never get the chance to uncover their pasts, it is not particularly unheard of to wander in out of nowhere with no memories.

Some last quick notes relating to this that aren’t really important/they will never have the potential to learn, but I would still like to have them written down: First, Hawthorn still treats Conway as a kid, mostly due to some of the minimal lingering emotions from the pmde universe. While Conway is younger, so there’s nothing particularly strange about it (especially considering Hawthorn’s tendency to act more important than he is), their pmde universe interactions are the real reason for it. When they crossed over, they were not deposited at the same time. Hawthorn arrived around three years after Conway. So while Hawthorn has not aged since pmde, Conway was closer to an age equivalent of 14-15 when Hawthorn knew him before, whereas now Conway has aged to around 17-18. The other thing I wanted to note is that Conway clicked so well with his adoptive family because they are the alternate universe versions of his actual parents. These two versions never managed to have kids though. Because breeding rules are different in this universe, breeding results seemed a logical thing to change as well. In pmde, Conway could have an espeon mother. In pmdu that is only possible during a special period of time. For whatever reason, these changes resulted in his alternate universe parents never having a child (despite wanting one), and made them more than willing to adopt Conway. Conway of course has no idea of any of this, and never will. He just knows he loves his adoptive family very much.
