Well, unfortunately cool stuff like Animorphs doesn't exist much anymore T^T All the cool stuff was in the 90's...
Anyway, it's about these kids who meet a dying alien, who gives them a special power and warns them that another species are taking over Earth. With this ability, the kids are given the power to morph into animals, and fight the alien race! Man, even for a kid's series, it was pretty fantastic....
owo Say, they made a TV show based on the series. It's not very well-aligned with the book series, but perhaps you'd like to see them to get the jist of the plot? I can link you to the episodes if you want

Now of course, the special effects aren't the greatest, and sadly it's not entirely accurate to the books and only lasted for a small portion of the books' timeline, but this should suffice for the story until you can get your hands on some of the books.
