Feeding them is fun. Sometimes when they miss something like a mealworm when handfeeding them and latch onto your finger instead, they won't let go and you have to gently tug them along the sand/substrate until they do xD Their nubby little teeth are just funny- they don't even hurt. Mine are called Athena and Fleck. Fleck is the typical yellow with spotted head and tail, but Athena is more like a snake- she's got dark brown bands on her body. They're my babies <3

Hi-yellows are actually a lot what Fleck looks like, minus the body spots x3 I'm almost positive they're both female, actually. I didn't know that when I first got Fleck though, and I sat on my bed staring at her for like an hour before the name just came to me and I was like "Woah. Perfect." I think it still reasonably fits, though. It's not a clearly gendered name like Jeff or Bob at least xD In a few years I'll probably get a mack super snow- I've always loved how they have that beautiful black and white spotted look :3

Mine do this :') I've recently made a background for my leo's viv, with big rocks and ledges
Little Snit, who loves to climb and jump, scaled the vertical rock face, sat ontop of the highest point in the viv.. and pooped.

I suppose this is true. every time my gecko, strider, comes out of his cave he stares, seemingly, disdainfully at all the crickets as though he were about to launch into a diatribe of how pitiful and weak they are compared to him.

lmao Nice image. My Mandarin (on whom Lazy is based) comes out whenever she hears the superworm box being disturbed. It sits on top of her tank. And she gives me the Cricket Face. Basically, O___O . Not so much a dragon, I guess, but still cute. lol

yes, when I buy crickets they come in a bag tied by a rubber band and when ever I start to open it Strider peeks out of his cave, he gives me the exact same face. I love it. The lazy comics are so factual it's hilarious.

...may I ask what your novel is about?

TeknicolorTiger In reply to radioactivechilde [2011-09-16 18:29:44 +0000 UTC]
Well, I'm sure you've noticed the overabundance of werewolf art I've been churning out recently. XD My novel is about werewolves. It's basically a horror/gothic/romance...kinda. (More emphasis on the gothic rather than romance, mind you.) I've been using some of the characters in RPs as a means of exploring them a bit (and as an excuse to draw them as I really need to work on drawing humans anyway). Mainly, this guy [link] and her [link] , who is the main character. Again, because I've been so busy with art in general as well as university classes I haven't had much time to write. >.< They are a little different in my novel than they are in the RPs though. I've had to change them slightly to fit in better with the groups.
What are you taking in college, if I may ask? X3

Oh, that makes sense,I remember wondering if you were writing a story with the characters in your gallery. I really like autumn, she looks very unassuming.
Would you define Gothic for me? it is a word that I find hard to define correctly in most situations.(lol, how lame, right?)
As for the courses I am taking; I am in running start, a program, if you don't already know, that you can take in high school where you get to go to a local community college and take classes (and the state pays for tuition, YAY!). It used to be that you could take as many credits at the college that you wanted, but this year the legislature changed the rules (darn them) and now if you the maximum amount of credits you can take at the college is 15; BUT if you take any classes at your high school the amount of credits you can take lowers. So, I am taking two classes (Modern Hebrew, and Pottery 2) at my high school and English and Geology at the college. I WAS going to take Japanese... drat.
woah... that was really ramble-y, sorry

TeknicolorTiger In reply to radioactivechilde [2011-09-16 22:43:14 +0000 UTC]
I think we had a similar program when I was in high school except that they offered the college level classes at the school.
Gothic is a lot of things but basically think Edgar Allen Poe or Bram Stoker's Dracula. Dark, dreary settings, supernatural creatures that may or may not be real, psychological thriller-type stuff. The genre itself usually refers to stories that were written or take place in the Victorian era when it originated and so is usually associated with old Victorian mansions, castles, graveyards, virginal main characters and Byronic heroes, the villains are usually aristocratic like Dukes or Barons, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, basically logic versus illogic, the unnatural in nature, insanity, etc. I'm in two classes right now that is covering the genre through different academic lenses and the more I learn about it the harder it is to really nail down in a single definition so forgive me if I ramble as well.

I don't really have any real antagonists though I suppose Hayden would probably be the closest thing. lol But that's mostly because he just isn't a nice person. Well, that's not entirely true. I have characters that go against or try to impede the main character but they aren't necessarily villains in the mustache-twirling sense of the word. Autumn's foster father, who is a scientist and a doctor, holds her against her will in order to study and hopefully 'cure' her although as time goes on he becomes more interested in her condition rather than her well-being. I've titled it 'The Monster of Amber Peace' as a sort of obvious metaphor. Everyone in my book is a monster to some degree but it doesn't necessarily make them antagonists or protagonists exactly.

That's awesome, you have so much to work with in that era; so much is going on!
And I don't know about the "nothing that hasn't been done before" thing, I, for one, have never read a story about were-wolves in the 1930's. (yay for innovations!)

TeknicolorTiger In reply to radioactivechilde [2011-09-17 03:13:57 +0000 UTC]
I was mainly referring to the social/psychological commentary but it's reassuring that werewolves in the 30s may be relatively innovative. lol

well, yes, that particular aspect (the commentary) has an long history already, but, if it is written well it won't matter.
I am getting very excited about your novel....
I suppose that is the danger of talking about something awesome, you become very interested in it. lol what is Vance's character?

that's ok. so I was looking at the picture of Asher (love that name) and I was wondering if you knew that it is against dogma for a priest to have a love interest; a;though I totally understand if that is a part of the conflict.
π: 0 β©: 1
TeknicolorTiger In reply to radioactivechilde [2011-09-17 06:28:21 +0000 UTC]
That is part of the conflict, yes. lol I have done research on Catholic dogma and priesthood for this character. Though he's not really a priest any more after the first book. He kinda blows that. He remains religious throughout the story and often wrestles with it though. Asher has changed A LOT since his first inception. He was originally just a creepy guy with some serious sexual issues and was obsessed with Autumn. But he's much more down-to-earth and deals with his demons differently. He still has some...sexual issues but they aren't as consuming as they were in Asher 1.0. His attachment to Autumn starts out as a kind of familial before he suddenly realizes that she's blossomed into this beautiful young werewolf. And as I said, females are very rare so his wolf is all like "O HELL YES". He was the chaplain at the church in the asylum and also tutored her from when she was 14 and up until the shit hits the fan at 18. Of course, by the time he is able to reconcile the fact that he's a werewolf, Autumn's a werewolf, and they should run away together, Hayden's already taken the initiative and has whisked her off to dump her in a Colony and satisfy his debt to an old friend. lol Long story short; Asher's a big wuss for the first book.
Unlike Hayden who has completely embraced his lycanthropy, Asher is burdened with it. He's one of the unlucky ones where he remains alienated from his wolf even if he does have some control over it. It still pretty much rules him and he has to lock himself in the basement of the church three times a month, when the phases of the moon are at its apex, so that he doesn't go out and maul someone. He 'exorcises' his wolf through pain and religious discipline to the point of carrying around a knife that he blessed himself which he uses to harm himself if he feels a change coming on. My biggest regret with this character is that he's so frickin' emo, but I kinda like him that way. lol
I should note that the werewolves in my story can change at will but have less control over the transformation and the influence of their bestial Id when the moon is full. Conversely, when there is no moon, they feel the most human, in a sense. It still takes a lot of discipline though. A change looms whenever they get really upset, frightened, angry, and even aroused depending on the person. It's part of the reason why Hayden is such a success unto himself because he has a hard time feeling emotions at all and therefore pretty much has his finger on the trigger the entire time. I'm still debating on some laws like if my werewolves should be sensitive to silver or not. Technically, the whole silver thing was made up by the 1940s Wolfman movies and isn't really canon...but then according to traditional lore, werewolves don't have tails either, but whatever. lol My lycanthropes are their own species and aren't just humans afflicted with a virus. They don't stop being what they are in the company of humans. They just hide it really well. XD So I think that gives me a bit of leeway.
