Thanks! Yeah, it could use a little more texture, but bug nets aren't really *nets*, they're actually made of a light canvas-type fabric. (my dad was an ecologist, and we lived in the Serengtei National Park when I was a kid, so I played with a *lot* of bug nets XD)

I could probably throw in a little noise to give it some visual interest, though. *ponders*

Oh wow. Talk about the uneducated opinions here. What is my experience... catching a butterfly at the age of 8. Hehe well you live and learn I think you should leave it as the canvas, because it does look a lot like canvas. Especially the weightiness of the fabric. Canvas only has like that really fine tooth so I dunno if it really needs to show up in the picture...

Well, if you scroll a little farther down the dictionary page the third version of teh definition lets you know that lepidopterans are butterflies. But "lepidopterist" is a highly amusing word in and of itself.

Well, upon further inspection I did realize the inherent meaning behind ‘lepidopterans’
However, that wasn’t until I had come up with such a witty comment about the definition that followed on the linked page. It would be too far out of character to avoid saying said comment, and thusly I posted it with the knowledge in hand of what ‘lepidopteris’, in this context, might mean.

However, then it becomes obvious what an unfunctional faculty of human expression semantics represents. To have several words or descriptions which all accurately define a subject would generally lead one to use the simplest and most direct form of the languaging. ‘butterfly catching profession’ would cover the subject, and make it possible for most anyone to understand. However, with semantics, the meaning becomes convoluted in terms, details, and renditions.

Then again, in the context of an art e-gallery, it might be suitable to use excessive language faculties such as technical semantics and jargon in order to best articulate a point through mastery of media, or in this case language.

And I bet you thought your description on the image was drawn out…

Dear God I feel like I'm back in grad school, where I had to *produce* that sort of thing! Throw in "vis-a-vis" and "paradigm" and I could have turned that in.

I shall instead post my favorite dictionary definition ever. I was poking through a large unabridged dictionary at work one day in a previous job (yes, I'm weird, I like reading dictionaries), and I came upon the definition for the phrase "spanker boom."

It read, solely: "Spanker boom. A boom for the spanker."

That stands to me as the most perfect yet useless definition ever. I gather it's a nautical thing having to do with sails, but I dont' really want to know any more because I think it would lessen the perfection of that definition as it stands.

My favorite tool is something I ran across in Chenhall's Nomenclature, which is a big classification book for museum, and is the 'barking spud.' It was in the Forestry section, so I assume it's used for removing bark from trees and isn't some sort of canine potato, but I'd really rather not know for sure.

and how exactly would one have an abridged dictionary… cut out the letters nobody ever uses
Normally I would be fine with reducing English down to about 14 letters, but after trying to learn Japanese, with its 4 syllabary sets and like 10 000 characters, 26 doesn’t sound that bad

Thanks! Theyw ere the fastest part of the pic - scribble a few white, yellow, and purple splotches on, then blend. Of course, then I overcompensated on teh *rest* of the pic, which was *supposed* to be me doing a simple fake-marker coloring. *sigh*
