No, really. He does.Painted in Photoshop, more-or-less following the video tutorial I bought from ~devotion-graphics , which is worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY I PAID FOR IT AND HE SHOULD BE CHARGING MORE BECAUSE IT IS EXCELLENT.
Pose almost identical to the Matt picture because I thought they'd make nice bookends. Based on this stock photo from `jademacalla .
It's not perfect yet - I need to tweak some things, like how his hair is patchy in color and saturation, but it's midnight here and I am all OMG I AM SO AWESOME so I thought I'd upload it while still on the art high, before the inevitable deep depressive crash when I realize just how much needs to be tweaked.

Unless Mello is a lefty with a dominant right eye, I'll take my chances that as much as he hate's me, he can't hit me. Yes, it's referenced, but the reference photo is also flawed as such. Keep at it, and better luck next time.

I say, leave the different colors in the hair, but tone down the saturation in some areas.

Eh, I'll experiment with the hair, as I can't yet decide. XD I've just now fixed the fringing around the jacket edges and re-oriented the cross and toned down the rosary's intensity a little bit so it's not as attention-grabbing (haven't uploaded yet)
The grey in his face makes him look like death warmed over ... but I sort of like that, because by this point in the manga, he pretty well ought to look like death warmed over. XD But I'll play around with it.

Now that I have recovered my bottom jaw from the floor I would just like to say that this blows my mind and will be going directly to my favorites. Not to mention you used stock by the awesomest stock person ever. As you say, I really DO feel that Mello hates me, but I will continue to stare at him and his extremely shiny clothes and hair until I am shot in the face.

Thank you! And thanks for uploading that photo, too - it's hard to find a good, solid stance with a handgun in stock photos - there's too many pose-y poses. (Well, ok, I *could* have gone the gangsta gun-on-side route as Mello does that in canon and it's established that he's just plain crazy, but I prefer the concentrated menace with this pose.
