I’ve been very amused by this whole Pokemon Go craze, and honestly would love to join in! It would work great for when I’m out exercising on my bike, and I needed to get a new phone anyway, but… I share Ryan’s sentiments here. As someone graduating from an old flip phone, I had no idea how expensive owning a smartphone was until now. Data plans, 2-year commitments, the actual phone etc. Thankfully I think I’ve found a route that could work well for me, but learning all of this was still kind of a surprise.

For boost mobile devices, you were able to get free data for a year because of Pokemon go but you would have needed to activate it before August 9th (I decided not to cause I don't like Pokemon go xD and I'm a really huge Pokemon fan so lewlz, it's not even the original 151 Pokemon so wtf. I'd rather make more crappy Pokemon then have a game that has caused so many accidents than it needed to but I guess at least people hopefully are using it to go out and exercise for once than waste there life on Facebook Twitter and Instagram *Im a hypocrite I wasted my life playing Pokemon but I still have more years a head cause I'm to young to die now *^* I justed wasted a few years yaaaaa a fewwww*)
OMF I was at a concert and older people like 50 or something we're playing and they called pokéballs Pokémon balls and so I yelled to my brother HOW MANY POKÉBALLS DO YOU HAVE? I had to yell cause I was at a Guns N Roses Concert xD

One reason I haven't yet downloaded Pokemon Go is I have no idea how much data it will use (the other reasons include not wanting to turn into a phone zombie, I can't even text and walk safely at the same time!)

Go uses about 0.1GB per hour. And it kills your battery, so bring a portable charger.

A friend I have online sometimes tells me by the Chat of a spanish wiki called SmashPedia (cause my native language is spanish, I am from Venezuela) that some guys he knows get out only to play Pokémon GO XD

It also doesn't help that Pokemon Go requires a phone with a built-in gyroscope for it's Augmented Reality moments, or else you're stuck with some generic background.

It more or less just stick the Pokemon characters over your camera's video. I think that's all it is. The problem though is that it require a gyroscope, and not too many phones (especially in the cheaper range) has it.

Probably it's because it's .02 gb of data/internet per minute. besides, i'm only going out for Pokémon Go. These people with their godly Pokémon while my Pidgeot is the highest I got with 511 CP... :c

Pfft, well battling trainers in that world certainly helps. Seems everyone you'd fight was more than willing to part with a day's salary for you beating them.... and you'd just faint and get out of paying if you lost.

I have a 2 gb a month plan, and when I'm at home I use our wifi... I never really seemed to have problems with it... o_o;

I feel like smartphones are one of those things where you don't really see their usefulness until you actually start using one, haha. For some people the cost is absolutely worth it - personally I use my own for a multitude of reasons. Some of the apps you can find are extremely useful as well. They aren't necessary, but they do make your life a lot
easier.
If you're buying a smartphone just for Pokemon Go though? Then it's a bit more questionable whether a new phone is really worth it or not IMO, but to each their own. x3

Not just for the game - I've been needing one for over a year in general, ever since my flip phone stopped working when they changed the cellphone towers. But the game is just an added bonus to encourage me to get one after procrastinating for so long.

You don't have to get a retardphone you know. Nobody's holding you at gunpoint forcing you to conform to all the other sheep. If you don't need it then don't get it.
I just got a pager for $4 at a yard sale and activated it. If someone wants to call me and my pager beeps, I ask to borrow the phone of whatever store I'm in and I make the call. They sometimes look at you weird but most don't care. I know how to get an outside line on those phones by heart now. Just have to be careful not to hit the wrong button by accident and activate the P.A. system. lol
I usually just go into small diners or hair salons and use their phones because they have normal off-the-shelf cordless phones and not 30-line business phones or crazy VOIP systems. The bus station is my favorite though and usually where I drive to if I'm not too far away because they leave a phone out at the help desk specifically for people to use.
But yeah, pager plans are only $8 a month. I have no use for a retardphone and paying so much money for excess shit I never use. I do not have any need to be on the internet 24/7. I have a computer for computer stuff and Internet, and videogame consoles for videogames. I only use a phone for calling, that's it.
