I adore young Qui-Gon and Jedi Master Dooku. I bet they were an amazing master-apprentice duo.

This is an illustration for *Nala15 of her super sweet Star Wars short story, Chosen. Below is an excerpt from the scene I drew, where Qui-Gon has just been apprenticed to Dooku and they are leaving the Jedi Temple at Coruscant.
Stealing a glance at Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn again felt that air of confidence the tall man had. Then, Qui-Gon remembered the small remnant of Dooku’s padawan braid. It wasn’t there anymore, but Qui-Gon knew what it meant. We’re both starting a journey, Qui-Gon thought, but we’ll get through it together.

Oh yes. The new audio book and some stuff from recent canon confirms that Qui gon would have been disgusted at what Dooku would have become.

If you think about the whole Master-Padawan lineage from Dooku to Jinn to Kenobi and finally to Skywalker, you're pretty much looking at a line of Jedi who are actually quite rebellious and unorthodox...
Dooku wasn't really a by-the-book Jedi and Qui-Gon was considered to be a grey Jedi and didn't follow the Jedi traditions all the way. Kenobi and Anakin both had female friends who harbored feelings for them and would do anything for them (Duchess Satine and Padme, respectively). Hell, Obi-Wan said that had Satine told him about her feelings toward him, he would have left the Jedi Order. I think Anakin would have done the same had things went differently with his path as the Chosen One.
I also wonder what would have happened had Qui-Gon found out about his dear Master going dark side because of his death.

Well, don't know if you read it, but the book Yoda: Dark Rendezvous by Sean Stuart goes deeper into the character of Dooku very well, explaining that though he was taken as an infant, he knew of his heritage as a Count, which along with his strong Force Sensitivity and intelligence made him both arrogant and extremely curious about everything, especially the "taboo." But anyway, you're welcome! Again, loved the piece. I also wonder what Qui Gon was like growing up as well.

Dooku needs more appreciation, he's such a great character. I like him both as Sith or Jedi, but still I always wish he'd reformed.

Well with such a master I´m not surprised. There would also be an interesting moment with a different set of master and an apprentice. Hego with Tenebrous as they were leaving Mygeeto for the first time... just a thought

Sorry for the late reply! I'll definitely think about your suggestion - I've recently read 'The Tenebrous Way' and have been itching to do something with Tenebrous. No wonder poor Hego started drinking, with his Master's encouraging attitude and charming personality.

Star Wars Insider nowadays only ships to the USA and Canada, so the magazine can no longer be ordered for those of us elsewhere on the globe - I dearly hope they'll reissue the story within some future SW book.

Plus I´m a real enthisiast of the Banite Sith - since reading the Darth Bane trilogy (would love to see that era made into a cartoon or a movie). Darth Plagueis was a dream come-true... evolving into more than I ever imagined (James Lucerno is a pure genius)...
Plus since the release of Darth Plagueis, very few fan arts exist and this Sith Lord (and a hobbying alcoholic 
Plus I consider Hego´s life very interesting
Btw I had the idea of writing a fanfic on the life of Darth Gravid and how he fell to the light side
