Entry for the contest over at #Anidala ; a diptych of Padme and Anakin Skywalker. The idea behind this was to show how the feeling of a relationship evolves through time. Dusk to dawn, childhood to adulthood. Lengthy explanation below:

Then
They are beginning to form a close friendship, a phase I associate with much eager chatter. I placed this as a 'missing scene' from Tatooine, where they both have a bit of breathing space before their story sends them off into more (mis)adventures. Also, dusk is a vibrant and colourful time, fitting for two children. Because despite everything, when Anakin and Padme meet they are both just two kids. Granted, two kids heavily battered by life and burdened by obligations, but still youthful and energetic.
Now
They are married and still nurture the same friendship as then. What I really hoped to show was how well they've gotten to know each other. They now have that emphatic something as a couple, where it's enough to be silently next to each other. To feel mutual understanding and comfort. Because life has continued battering them mercilessly, oh my yes, hasn't it just. And their obligations have just grown bigger and more dangerous, but they have each other, so maybe they'll get through another day safely.
Not that it really matters what looms ahead, because this is the now and this is where they have happiness.

Completing this exhausted me mentally. *shrieks* I'm sure it's the most complex SW fanart I've done so far, but I'm not sure yet that I like the end result? Anyway, lemme just mention that over a hundred windows were coloured one by one. I unified the two scenes by joining the background elements (where possible) and by using the same colour scheme (I picked only shades of orange and purple). Just for fun, Padme and Anakin switch the colours of their clothes in the two drawings, so take delight in their his'n'her pajamas.

P.S. I adore rich colours in other people's art, but my attempts end in disaster and it's really frustrating! I hope your poor eyeballs won't be cursing me.

Cameo 'appearence' of Darth Vader in mourning, holding some white flowers. I'm sure you can spot him.
