This has been such an on-and-off drawing that I can't remember how I first thought of it. Sometimes I just get urges to draw cute stuff and let's leave it at that. It's also been a cool experiment with using colour on sketches.
These little broken families make me simultaneously gush and cry inside. The softer side of Star Wars never gets enough love.

EDIT: I just remembered, I also used pose reference for Anakin and Shmi out of 'Treasure Planet''s beginning storytelling scene, it's iconic to me for a 'mother-son' bonding moment. Really sweet and underrated SF animated movie, check it out!

Poor Maul and I feel sorry for Grievous because he had family before shuttle accident and become cyborg.... he never get a chance to see his family before he died.... I feel sorry for him....

Have you read the book Darth Plagueis? Palpatine went through some serious shit too. (One of them being ne nearly froze to death)

Yes, I read the book, I loved it a lot! The freezing scene was pretty brutal, I did feel sorry for Palpatine!
I think the worst thing is that, for all Palpatine put Maul through, you can tell he did a better job at parenting that Palpatine's own father:
at least young Maul didn't feel Palpatine would prefer him to be dead. :-/

I just got past that part in the book. At the end of that part I was like: "I'm just thankful he didn't loose anything to frostbite...." . That book also reveals that, even as a kid, Sidious was still the cunning manipulator he is as the chancellor!
I'm sure he did. Cosinga man.....I didn't even feel sorry for him when Palpatine killed him. I was actually happy! What book should I aquire to read all about Maul and his rise to being a mighty Sith warrior?

Wait until you get to the end of the book, hehehe, little Palpatine really grows into the ultimate manipulator...
I wasn't even sorry for Cosinga either, what an evil jerk that one was! I never quite got why Cosinga wanted his son dead ever since he was born. :-/
Hmm, as to Maul book, there's a young adult book I haven't read yet, that details his childhood the most - 'The Wrath of Darth Maul', I think it is called. I found snippets of his childhood in 'Shadowhunter'. There's also a few other books that touch on the subject, but I would have to check their names.
