Description Being a tree hugger, I found myself excited when asked to paint this Magic the Gathering card.
The description from the art director said: "She Who Remembers: A beautiful and elegant green-aligned human druid
crouching to touch the ground. Where her hand meets the metal forest floor, tendrils of yellow-green energy rise up around it.
Mood: I will bring back what's forgotten."

Cool huh?! I also loved the flavor text which was printed on the final card,
"She remembers every word spoken, from the hero's oath to the baby's cry."

This one was all acrylic and colored pencil. I used a bit of air brush in the back for the streaming sunlight effect.

thanks so much for posting that in your info, about the card and the directive in mind

its a constant convo at the magic table in my house about how the story and art and card all mesh so well.

and we know there are art directors, but every card is so special to the artist, but they all seem to fit together, its just such a magical collaboration and its exciting to get a small tidbit about the process.

I got to rambling... but, like, who can't ramble about so much greatness!

very cool bud.

One of the reasons that I play MTG is because of the lovely art, and yours was some that really stuck out to me. Gorgeous work here, and in the rest of your gallery as well.

Thank you for sharing it here!

Absolutely beautifully done. I love the way her clothing is literally made of leaves. And, of course, she is very pretty: especially the eyes.

The art was always one of the best things about Magic. I dabble a bit in cardgames, and it really is sad that the others, while often offering better gameplay, stick to the cheap anime-style drawing for their card artworks. Magic really has something great going on in its use of stuff like this.

TereseNielsen In reply to Giggilymoricon [2009-06-22 17:25:32 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Magic actually 'has' a budget for art so they can hire professionals to do their best.

Thanks for looking!

One of my favorite cards/artwork. I'm really glad you are the one who made the artwork.

and I have no idea how you can come up with something so beautiful with colored pencils (and acrylics I know) but still. I just don't get it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TereseNielsen In reply to STsung [2009-08-06 00:57:59 +0000 UTC]

I use colored pencils mostly to carve out edges and and shift areas of color a bit. I never use them to fully render a face or anything like that.
