Isn't this more to bipolar disorder than borderline personality?Β

As someone who suffers from BPD, I can say this is a very accurate portrayal of the illness.Β

I started a group for borderline personality, i'd like for you and all who see this to join
It's just a place where you can hang out, submit art, find support or inspiration and you can also vent.

what you draw is the stereotype description of borderline- emptyness and paradoxical mood, i see that you are very influenced by the diagnostic . Ussualy this is the first question in the evaluation- do you have a feeling of emptyness? and after that their is the fact that borderline pers has 2 paradoxical moods - happyness and sadness.... loving and hating people, all these are stereotypes. i would like to see an authentic drawing about what you really feel not about what They`ve told you.
You have right this is you As They Said.

Borderline is very complex it`s not just about sadness and happyness as in manic-depressive disorder or bipolar-AND.....this is a diagnostic when they ussualy don`t have a diagnostic, when they are not really sure if you are psychotic or just nevrotic. Borderline is very ambiguous.

How is it a stereotype, if most people with this illness actually have feelings of happiness, and shifts from happiness, sadness, anxiety, and stress.....

Also, Bipolar Disorder does not have happiness and sadness. It has Major Depression and Mania. That's different from just "sad". That's different from just "angry", or "happy".

If a person is diagnosed with Borderline, but don't have feelings of happiness, sadness, and shifts from devaluation and idealization, then they can barely even fit the criteria, which is needed to be diagnosed...

But yeah, I understand. It's more than just that. But it's also not even close to a stereotype, because those truly are the main feelings. Paranoia, dissociative symptoms, anxiety, happiness, and sadness are the main feelings, along with swings from loving and hating certain people. Black and white thinking is not as common, but still a major symptom.

Once again, though, I really know what you're saying, because there's some stigma around the moods Borderlines go through.

My comment it`s from a year ago and i`ve learned more about Bipolar disorder since, so i agree with what you have said about it. Regarding this drawing and Borderline p. disorder, i still think this is vague. As you described so well, those are the main feelings- the shifts between sadness- happiness, idealization-devaluation, the emptyness feeling, anxiety and paronia . But here i see only 2 of them and i`ve heard a lot of persons (psychology stundents also) describing borderline only trought the happyness - sadness and emptyness feelings( sometimes just the two opposite moods) so it was a stereotype for me because this was an ilustration of what the most people thought/still think about borderline here,in my country.

The artist, probably focused on what he/she feels mainly. It`s not detailed, and it`s his/her choice , that doesn`t mean it`s wrong or should be ilustrated differently. It`s art, not DSM-Doesn`t have to be precised. I can see that at the time when i had wrote the message i was angry and subjective so i`m sorry if i offended anyone.

To conclude in a funny mode ,when i draw about it, it`s so complicated that nobody can tell what it`s about or relate to it. So simplicity isn`t bad at all .

Yeah, good point. It would've been a lot more accurate, and maybe even more moving, if it depicted other emotions. Not to mention that happiness is more over one of the most, if not the most, minor emotion in Borderline. Emptiness and dysphoria tend to be the major ones for most people with Borderline. And, add the idealization and devaluation, it's missing a lot. But it depicts how quickly an emotion can swing for a person with BPD, and the fact that there's nearly always a subtle feeling of emptiness, but this tends to be covered up with other, temporary emotion.

Another major emotion in BPD is boredom. It would've been nice if the artist included it, since, for me, boredom is even more chronic than emptiness. But that could just be the fact that I possibly have either ADD, ADHD, or ADHD-C.

I agree. People tend to draw a picture of their inner feelings. Especially when drawing a picture related to a mental illness. And it doesn't have to go over all of the symptoms in the criteria, too, you're right about that. No, it's fine. I wasn't offended, just rambling on. I'm sorry if I seemed offensive, because, rereading it, I seemed a tad angry/upset.

Huh. Sorry to hear that. But I like something complicated, whether or not I can understand it, so I might take a look at your art. My art is crap.

Thank you. Thats what is my art about. I would be dead already if I didnt have my hand or mind to create art - its my therapy, its the way I speak, its very hard to tell whats going on in my head by words, but whan I can paint it its easier. My therapist dont understand it so shes kinda mad on me but whan i paint rose its not just rose, its story of unhappy love, whan i paint some house its house that ment something for me or so.. and its just on me how much clearly i want to talk - if i drow something like this one, whan you understand clearly what i mean and feel or i paint my bunny like today and pssst but its not about my bunny but about how sick i feel so the bunny is only thing (exept internet) that i talk to these days... oh, quite long comment sorry

I can completely agree that if I didn't have art, I would probably be dead. It's the only way that I, as a person with borderline personality disorder, (wrongly diagnosed with depression and bipolar disorder first) can personally relate to.
