It's not because you're southern, It's probably because you fly a flag.
I'm from the deep south, I never get convicted of being racist becasue I don't fly the fricking Dixie flag.

It's nice to know that not everyone associates the Rebel Flag with slavery. A good amount of people tend to ignore the fact that there were other factors that contributed to the Civil War. I tried to explain this on Tumblr once and got creamed.

I really hate it when people think negatively about this flag and it's meaning. This flag represents the pride we people from the south have. I was born in Georgia and raised there for 7 years before moving to Germany. During those 7 years however, I remember seeing that flag and thinking nothing negatively of it. My father hates the new Georgia State flag. And I have to agree with him there, in comparison I do like the old one more than the new one. I also hate it when people at school ask me if I am part of the KKK. I always tell them no and then follow up with asking them if they are a part of the third reich. I don't think my classmates even know what the KKK even did and what kind of impact they had upon the south. So in the end I am a girl that is 15 years old right now while writing this who was born in Georgia and is not racist nor is part of the KKK or any other hate groups. I will wave this flag with pride.

The flag represnets southern pride, but since it was the rebel flag in the American Civil War, it's often seen as a symbol of racism.

I know what you mean. Almost everyone that looks at that flag sees it as a symbol of hate and slavery.
I love that flag and would gladly tell anyone why I support it the way I do. We don't have much trouble with it here in SC but they took it down from the atop the state house and then when it caused a huge uprising they put it on the grounds with the American and SC flag.

Yah. It really bothers me when people blame the south for slavery, when people in the north had slaves as well. It's not even like ALL southerners beat their slaves, I'm not saying it was good or anything, but most people just had small family-farms and their slaves were more like other workers...sorta.
Thanks again. ^^
