Description My second attempt at digital painting and airbrushing. Used photoshop and a MOUSE! Want a tablet so bad..
This is based on part of the movie Sunshine(2007). If you've not seen it, you must. It's and awesome film (and don't read the spoiler part). Sunshine is a sci-fi set in the not to distant future, and the story follows the crew on a spaceship, Icarus II, sent from earth to re-start the dying sun with a thermonuclear payload bomb.
For this pic to be explained without spoiling much, these are the suns rays hitting down on the ships shield.
Interestingly, the physicist helping with the real science of the movie, Dr Brian Cox, is a lecturer at my University.
Wiki Page (with full film plot) for Sunshine: [link]

Be nice. I worked hard on this one.

*SUNSHINE spoiler warning*

This depicts the shield of Icarus, soon after Cappa and Kaneda go out onto the shield to fix the plates damaged by the sun. Icarus, the ships computer decides to remove human control when the mission is in danger of failure. The shield was realigned away from the sun so the repairs could be made, but Icarus allows it to be moved back into the correct alignment, meaning Cappa and Kaneda have a race against time to get back behind the shield's rim and back into the ship. This is the moment where the flames from the suns light hit down on the shield, engulfing Kaneda so Cappa can escape. Searle, the ship's doctor is maintaining radio contact with Kaneda, repeating "Kaneda, What can you SEE?".

Brilliant film, brilliant art work! Is Dr. Brian Cox the physicist who's been doing all the BBC documentaries on physics? I think he's pretty cool .

Didn't like the movie that much, but I really liked the spaceship-with-giant-shield/bomb-thing. I'm planning on painting something about it too for it's been too long that I've painted something for a mousepainted work, I rather think this is very impressive nice work

thanks very much! i did enjoy the film, although it was a little infeasible with Mr 7 year goo ¬_¬

TerraRhapsody In reply to CrustyFish [2009-08-19 09:31:52 +0000 UTC]

well, it's not like i'm any good at it, but i think it's good to get stuff like that done- even if it doesn't match up to the leaders in digital painting!!

CrustyFish In reply to TerraRhapsody [2009-08-19 13:46:33 +0000 UTC]

well yeah, I started painting this year (forced actualy, but I like it) due to school. Only things I did were normal drawings, on paper, but now I have to combine both. It's rather for fun when I draw or paint now, in the hope that my skills (if I even have some) will improve

Woah! I never seen nor heard of that movie. But I'm impressed that you paint this so well with a mouse!

You did a great job with the flames by the way.

Overall this piece is very nice!

thanks so much! it's a cool movie (by the same guy that directed 28 days later ) one day i might be able to afford a tablet- i do like painting, but it's so damn tedious with a mouse >.<
a massive compliment- so thanks hun

That moment in the film was absolutely heartbreaking...it haunted me for quite a while. The painting is brilliant! As someone who can't paint worth shit (I really can't, I've tried), it always impresses me when people do such a good job.

TerraRhapsody In reply to EveryNextDream [2008-02-13 21:04:17 +0000 UTC]

it was indeed. i love that film, and from the second i saw it, i wanted to do this. i might do another version from cappa's perspective looking at the flames. such an intense moment. very glad you like it

It was a good movie and I remember the scene, although the bad guy was a bit too imbalanced. ( I mean, come on, how many years had he been on his own and survived?O_o)
Not bad for a mouse attempt at fire. I have also tried to do fire and failed.
