This creature reminds me of a caterpillar with a false face designed to intimidate predators. Either it confuses them, making the caterpillar look like a bigger predator, or that the insect is a poisonous unrelated species. The "real" happy face is on top, while the frown below is the creature's clothing or coloration. The "eyes" look like buttons, and the lower mouth is a decorative red band.

It also reminds me of a playing piece, some sort of domino in a new RPG game.

Amazing piece of artwork. It makes me think about what it is, without looking visually confusing.
