I obviously don't know for sure, but I doubt any effects were used on this, as it wasn't made in MMD. The program it was created in was blender.

You should have a look at the Cycles render engine for Blender; this is what he used here

I'm actually fairly familiar. I use it all the time but for some reason, rendering skin is something I can never seem to get right. Did you render this in GPU or CPU with SSS?

I turned mine pretty damn high and it still looked bad.
What is your sampling rate at?

He uses like 5000 samples, maybe even more lol

Turn the sampling up higher in Blender. The higher the sampling, the clearer the picture. This comes at the cost of render time, though.Β
