Description
Original sketch provided by Trubbol (www.furaffinity.net/user/trubb… ).
This is a pic that's been sitting in my "Finish Me Dammit!" pile for a while. I always meant to color this, but just kept not getting around to it.
Anyway, here we have my evil oni warlord, Umakao Daimaoh, having a run in with some annoying, time traveling meddlers, Chrono and Marle. It seems that in their quest through time, they got caught in the middle of his plans to conquer the world and didn't feel like he should be allowed to complete them. Umakao, in return, decided they shouldn't be allowed to continue being human. Fortunately for this horse sorcerer, it was an easy problem to correct.
There's a couple things I really like about the sketch Trubbol provided me for this. Firstly, it actually captures a good sense of the scale of Umakao. He's got to be down on his hands and knees to even fit in the frame and he towers over his victims. Umakao is supposed to be huge, but not very many of artists who've drawn him ever capture a sense of his scale very well. Chrono's raccoon form is a bit big for the scale, but Marle is just right for what I like to see when normal humans get compared to him.
I tried something abstract with the background. Trubbol only provided the figures, since that was all I asked for, but I decided to add a background to it. Alas, it was very late at night when I got to the point of doing the background and I wanted to see if I could abstract it to make it go faster. The results are . . . mixed for me. You can tell the location well enough and there's a sort of sense of space to it, but I feel like the dirt and leafy canopy just don't work with the figures. The figures feel more like they're floating in the air in front of an image rather than actually being part of that image. Still, I do like the figures themselves. I especially love the way Trubbol captured the megalomaniacal glee Umakao has for humiliating people by reducing them to animal forms.
That's probably what separates Umakao from my other characters. They're all tf focused in some way, but for the others that's just a means to an end. The bog witch transforms people because adding new toads to her hoard increases her personal power. Cassie zaps people into space frogs because they get in the way of her goals. Anaaya turns people into farm animals to win prize money at state fairs. Thulssa Yii turns people into reptiles as an alternative to killing foes because he has a psychological need to prove himself superior and making sure they live to know it.
But this guy? This guy just loves the power he can have over others. There's no more motivation to it than that. He's not driven by psychological hang-ups. He doesn't need to do it - and when doing so isn't a smart tactical option, he's more than willing to just straight up run you through with his naginata. He doesn't gain anything from doing it. He just enjoys knowing he has such power over others that even the very shapes of their bodies conform to his will. Although I haven't shown it, he also has the power to animate corpses as skeletons and zombies, and he enjoys that because it means he has the power to command people even in death. For this dark lord, it is all about domination. If he so chooses, every aspect of your life, right down to the shape of your body, is a thing he has the power to control.
This probably makes him the single most evil character in my collection.
