Sorry if this is sudden, but is it alright if you could use a different base for your running sprites? The guy who originally made the running Sonic sprites had found out people had been leaking his work online.

Yeah, it is quite the overreaction. Although to be honest, I would also feel upset if I made a game with my own animations in it just for people to rip it for the sake of their Sonic recolors.

I don't think it's a problem to have it on your computer, I think it would only be a problem if you used it.

On the bright side, he didn't really accuse you directly as a thief, he just kind of demanded it to be removed, and finally said something different. He does shows he would've preferred people asked him to use the sprites.

It's in JPG format, so no one is able to use it. But I have already given these sprites in PNG format to some other spriters and animators before this.
I will not use those running sprites on the newer version of my character, if that's good enough for you.

Anyway. You should ask other people who are using your sprites to update their sprite sheets so there are none of your sprites used.
