Description YUS finally done. i was so excited about this pic, for some reason.
anyway, it's OPHELIA. u know her story right? if u don't then i'll tell it in a really short version that might be a little wrong lol
okay, so ophelia loved some guy named hamlet and he turned her down. and so then he was mad at this one guy and set out to kill him and accidentily killed ophelia's father. and so then ophelia went to think somewhere in a tree and the branch broke and she fell into the water and drowned. her life SUCKS, in my opinion.
anyway, i felt like so many other people were doing ophelia concepts, i'd like to do one myself!
when doing this picture, i was so nervous about the water. i had no fancy "opaque white" or anything and so...>> well, u guys are going to rofl at me. i used my mom's e.l.f eye widener pearl white MAKEUP PEN!! HAHAHAH yeah i know i suck! lol anyway, i really really hope u like it, cuz i worked hard yo!
i think i have a problem, cuz the last three pictures have green as the color scheme. i need to branch out with my next few pics!! lol

tools: microns, copic sketch markers, some prismacolors, a green brush pen, and that makeup pen lol

time: about a week

thank u so so much for the critique!! i really appreciate it! i'm so glad u like all the things u do, i tried really hard on the water XD. but ur right, i see at the bottom where it does seem strandy. i guess i was trying to make it so it wasn't so much of a pattern throughtout the whole piece you know? i wanted it to seem real so i tried to make it so the viewer would just imagine the dimensions of the water in some places and not put the highlights, but i don't think i executed that very well.
also, about the bottom of the water being too dark, i wanted to do a gradient, because of the light source maybe? i don't exactly know why, i think i just wanted more attention drawn to the face, so i made that part lighter.
thank u so much, i'll work harder!

You're doing great!

That's understandable, the water looks great nonetheless! It's a lot better than I could do w/markers haha. You're very welcome, it's my pleasure!

"Wow" is all i can say bout this piece. Well actually not all because i have a 100 word minimum on this critique. I think the water is stunning. Anyone can pull off this image with their mother's eyeliner has got some serious potential.
I definatly think that the composition is perfect too. How the lily pads are placed as a border yet still fit in the picture amazes me. This concept is really cool too. I have seen many Ophelia related pictures on deviantART and the internet as a whole and i have never seen her story pulled off like this. A real twist, and an interesting one at that. She's dead. Pulling off such beauty even with a dead subject is a talent. Your copic skills amaze me. With the blending of the water you gave the background an almost watercolor feel. Your brush strokes even show the wrinkles in the dress. It appears that as an artist you no longer rely on the lines to be your guide.

The time you must have spent working on this boggles my mind. How could you be so patient coloring every strand of flawless hair.

Amazing work. I am proud to be critiquing this picture. I see nothing wrong with it.

Maybe she killed herself, maybe not; we will never know, which was the point.

she is so beautiful i love that you colored the water in grey tones because it gave this piece the needed sadness and darkness... i think with blue it would look to "happy"

It looks like that one was done after mine was. ^^ I submitted mine in 2009. Ophelia is presented often in artwork and there are in fact many pieces similar to this in content.
I hope you like my rendition though? hahaha

That's okay, I don't expect everyone to, which is why I wrote a description. ^^ I'm glad you like it. That's a fair critique, however as said before, it has been three years since I did this piece so I feel like I've gotten better with time.

Not a critique, but a compliment... What can I say, I love most of your work presented in deviant. This is one of my favourites, mostly I like the perfect aquarela of greens, the mysty & big marble eyes, the long redish & witchy hair, the gray robe, almost like a extention of hair... all her expression both face & body, wondering in nature... just like one more nenuphar in the clear & transparent water. Not a ghostly or dead expression but a peaceful one. a delicate Nereid.

Great picture. You have talent. However Ophelia didn't go to think in a tree and the branch broke making her fall and drown. It was really vague in the play and only mentions that they found her body dead in the marsh. Hamlet told her that he didn't love her half because he wanted to fake madness so that he could plot his revenge on the king (as he killed his father- the old king- and married his mother). This drove her into actual madness suggesting that she probably commited suicide.

Thank you. ^^ Yeah, I didn't exactly read Hamlet before I drew this, I just know that was one of the suggested happening of what went down haha but I'll have to change that.
