I like going to the gym. Admittedly getting a good weight set-up is proving to be...difficult. I can bench press a car, no problem. So that's the ground. Hard to build up from there. But the great thing about being among the supernatural is how they've arranged for a few human creature comforts to be translated to our environment. The lycans used to be human, too. Selkies have that same thing going for them. Really, a gym is a very human construct. The natural environment of the contemporary person is different from the one nature intended. We would be laboring ourselves into shape if we were simply in the wild. But even the concept of the hunter was a bit of a deviation from what we originally were. We augmented ourselves using our intellect, and sort of left nature in the dust. Structurally, at least.

Humans are still, like, products of nature, though. So we're subject to the laws of atrophy. We will flounder if we don't return to our primitive roots. Movement means life. Even if you're...y'know. Technically dead. It's even worse when your body doesn't know what to do with food. All my energy comes from blood. Don't ask how. Simon's legitimately been kept up by it.

But everything is a puzzle to him. Where you see a picture he sees endless layers of paint. That sort of thing. He views everything as it was, and not as it is. Everything comes from something, and that something is more fascinating to him. Or, maybe it's all he's capable of thinking about. The simple singular idea is too static for how he chooses to approach it. Always trying to unravel threads, that boy.

He asks why I choose to eat.

Have you tasted chocolate?

Blood gives me life. It's the reason I stand today, and the reason I'll be around for...forever. Ever. And the taste reflects the intangible importance of it. But food is...special. Cooking brings me back. Sundays making homemade pizza with my mother. The flour between my fingertips. Garlic on my breath. The sting of a bell pepper seed. The crackling of overdone crust.

I should make a wedge. Try and watch my figure. Though...a little extra bacon wouldn't hurt.

Food is another departure from nature. We took what was given to us and refused. We could go one better. If all the creatures on earth were this big social circle of people, then humans would be those artsy weirdos. They're so far from what's expected but also on a level that few other people could aspire to. This doesn't make them more complete, but it does make them special.
