Description

So you all probably heard about this new study that came out, and subsequently various experts coming out supporting the ol`fashion scaly Tyrannosaurus rex again, personally I can't say I that found the current theories supporting this especially convincing, as they mostly sound like they're just regurgitating the same old theories that kept T.rex scaly back in the 2000s, but were then treated as bogus in the post-Yutyrannus era, but now they`re apparently valid again, point being that this at this point I have largely lost faith with paleontologists when it comes to their theories regarding scales vs feathers body coverage in large theropods, I don't support either the feathered or the scaly T.rex anymore, as I don't see a convincing reason to side with either one of them, I`m just going with the current fashion trend so to speak and I`m trying to make the best of it, at the very least I`m pretty satisfied with how my scaly Tyrannosaurus adult and juvenile designs came out.

I sincerely hope that some day we`ll finally discover hard evidence in the form of vast surface body impression that will finally give us a real answer regarding how this iconic dinosaur looked like on the surface, not just it, but I also hope that we will find the same kind of smoking gun evidence for other large theropods like Deinocheirus, Therizinosaurus, Allosaurus, carcharodontosaurs, spinosaurs, ect, eliminating our reliance on potentially flawed and biased theories based on scares evidence.

I'd would say HAWKS, but Birks of prey are closer to Troodonts and Dromaeosaurs.

What is wrong the idea of Tyrannosaurus looking retarded?

You know, the T. Rex skin impressions isn't the only scientific discovery that ended up getting overhyped by the media. In fact, there is another one from a long time that went through some similar media overhype like the T. Rex skin discovery did. Can you guess what it is? I'll give you give a hint: It was a very important discovery to the scientific community.

I`m just doing what paleontologists are currently telling me to, I definitely won't ever draw non-feathered maniraptoforms, sans Therizinosaurus and Deinocheirus.

Well. I learned about discoveries of T-rex skin. And I also prefer classic scaly dinosaurs. As for maniraptoforms or a bit of feather will not hurt.

Man, I wish we would find a complete T. Rex skeleton that has perfectly preserved fossilized skin/scales/feathers on it so we would know what it truly was covered in.

SusuSketches [2017-06-29 21:22:26 +0000 UTC]

Awesome drawing ! And I totally agree with you,
these theories are no real facts, we literally can´t
be sure unless we find one in the ice haha
I also just heard about the "T-res has lips"- theory and tried
to get that on paper, it´s a baby-rex, back covered in growing feathers.
Front mouth scaly like a lizard (maybe like a Komodo monitor) and the part
between the jaws is softer and looser on old rexes - would look like a vulture head but just without beak
we can just imagine all the details, imo the skin could have been scaly but not same all over,
some parts softer like on the emu-birds feet
A dinosaur with small arms should be able to move around much,
soft skin at the leg and stomach, the back would have harder scales
but I´m also not sure tho, do you thing Rex moved a lot?

Very nicely done. It is sad that people are debating this like a bunch of children. As far as I know, both sides win. Feathered and Scaly depictions of T.rex are equally valid, and yet everyone still wants to whine like babies.

Nice man! Love the coloration!

I hate how Science Journalism in general is so mistreated these days. My T. rex reconstruction has been updated with more skin and scales, with feathers still being at the upper part of the body

Here's my reconstruction.
