Description
Upon reaching adulthood, all Asrie must join the Maiden Guard for three years (there are some exceptions such as priestesses and apprentices in roles deemed vital). During this time Maidens also continue their advanced education in subjects such as history, science, and arts. After those three years service is voluntary, some devoting their entire lives to Asra's defence.

Page Maidens wear light blue tunics and play support roles; administrators, medics, engineers, scribes, and personal assistants to higher ranking Maidens.

Guard Maidens wear white tunics with blue stripes and trim. When not called on to fight battles their duties are guarding, patrolling and keeping the peace, offering aid and assistance to anyone in need.

Maidens usually operate in squads of up to ten, led by a Captain (distinguishable from the others by an extra stripe on a tunic). Captain's are chosen from Maiden's who have already served at least one year.

Three or more squads are led by a Squire who wears a sash to show her rank. These are experienced Captains who have impressed enough to become officers.

A Squire hopes to one day become a Knight, distinguished by a navy blue tunic with blue trim. In battle a Knight will be in command of up to a hundred Maidens (or nine squads). Outside of battle their duties are many and varied; often they may travel on their own (or with a small entourage) seeking out quests and adventure.

Finally are the Paladins who wear all white. They command an entire regiment in battle (about a thousand Maidens), and outside of battle are usually the highest ranking Maidens in a city or region.

The only higher rank is the Sentinels - bodyguards to the Princess, and on rare occasions when a very large force is deployed a Sentinel will usually be in command of the entire army. Sentinels are only answerable to the Princess herself.

In addition may be encountered sailors who wear blue tunics with green stripes, or scouts who wear green tunics with brown stripes. Temples also have their own guards (usually called Star Guardians), some rich and influential Asrie may also employ their own, or there may be local militias outside the usual chain of command.
