Description Oshun (or Osun, Oxum) is a Yoruba Orisha, the Spirit (some might say Goddess) of the River Osun in southwestern Nigeria, where Her sanctuary has a sacred grove and shrines. She is an Orisha of love, beauty, kindness and wealth; like other Orishas She has a color of Her own, yellow, and a number, the number five. She is known as Yeye Kari, Mother of Sweetness, and honey is commonly offered to Her.

Oshun finds a place also in the religions of the African diaspora such as Santeria and Candomble.

Oshun is said to have been taught divination with cowrie shells by the eldest Orisha Obatala; She then passed that knowledge on to humankind.

I have shown Her on the banks of Her river, in a yellow skirt printed with peacocks, which are sacred to Her; She wears a necklace with five blue stones, and a cowrie-shell armband.
