I must admit I've been impressed with the last couple chapters, it seems like TK is ACTUALLY trying to weave a decent plot with this last arc. Here's hoping he'll keep it up and there won't be any Deus ex Machinas or plot twists that don't make any sense.Seems he's planning to go more in depth with old man Yamamoto so it should be interesting. Since mercy isn't exactly in the geezer's vocabulary I'm guessing this bad guy must be ridiculously powerful (either that or Yamamoto was a very different person one thousand years ago).
Just out of curiosity if TK continues the trend of actually killing "good" guys who do you think is most likely to perish? When it comes to the Gotei 13 my money would be on Yamamoto, Ukitake, and Komamura
Before I forget. I do not own Bleach, the series is the intellectual property of one Tite Kubo. This poster was made by copying and pasting a couple panels from the 16th page of the 489th chapter of the aforementioned manga and about three minutes of Microsoft Paint. This was done purely for the sake of discussion I will not make nor do I intend to incur a personal profit from this deviation either directly or indirectly.

I hope Kubo tells us more about Mayuri; like pretty much everything about him but I think if he does it will be just before or during Mayuri's death PLZ LET ME BE WRONG!!!

Yeah perhaps what caused him to become so homicidal and all round insane, though of course Mayuri crossed the moral event horizon a LONG time ago. One problem TK seems to have is that he doesn't seem to want to develop characters in the main manga choosing to draw it out in supplemental materials like he did with Ulquiorra.

You are correct on both accounts Guy. Yamamoto's arch-enemy, Juhabach - is more dangerous than Aizen. That's saying something. While Aizen had the Hogyouku, Juhabach doesn't need it. He's really the only person that Yamamoto considers to be truly worthy of facing his incredibly destructive Bankai. He's also the only opponent he doesn't refer to as "child".
And you are right - Yamamoto used to be a different person. He's not nice, to be sure - but he's slowly gotten better. He's taken a level in kindness thanks to Ichigo. But, about 1,000 years ago he was merciless - willing to wipe the Quincy out of existence if it meant spiritual balance.
As time drew on, he became less harsh - more open to change. He also ordered the Gotei 13 Captains to restore Ichigo's powers - as a gesture of respect. He also listened to our hero's request to bring Ginjo's body back to Earth to bury it, a request which he granted.
I like Yamamoto. I really think he was my favorite character, next to Kenpachi.

Hmm..the ones most likely to perish:
1. Yamamoto
2. Ukitake
3. Komamura
4. Kenpachi -iduuno why, but I can see him dying. Don't think he will though.
5. Hinamori -gives Toushiro character development
6. Ichigo -Heroic death/becomes a captain at the end of the arc.
7. Mayuri
8. Soifon or Omeoda
Yama-Jii's death would shake the Seretei. Despair everywhere. Perhaps his death would ultimately cause the Royal Gaurd to step-in.
Komamoru is the most likely captain, besides Yama-Jii, that will die. I can see him dying honourably fighting/protecting someone.
Hinamori is just walking bad luck. I wouldn't be surprised if she died. Not that I want her to, it's just that she seems like she would.
I don't really know about Kenpachi....but I can see him dying...after defeating his enemy of course.
The Vizard captains most likely won't die, sine it'd be one hell of a dick move by Kubo to kill them right after they got reinstated.
But if one of them was to die..then I'd say either Shinji or Rose.
I don't really think Byakuya would die...but it would give Rukia and Renji some character development if he did perish.
Toushiro is still young and by watching his comrades die would give him character development.
Either Shunsei, Ukitake, or Unohana will die. They're senior captains...one of them has to go.
Mayuri might die. Thusly giving Urahara his position back...but, like Kenpachi, I can see him dying.
Soifon is kind of unlikely. I can see her leuitenant dying more-so than her. Giving her some character development.
But if Soifon dies..Then Yoruichi might have to take back her position. Like Mayuri and Kisuke.

If Yamamoto doesn't make it would definitely send shock waves throughout the Gotei 13. The most immediate question to come up would have to be the issue of succession naturally. The best fits if it were to be immediate would probably have to be either Kyouraku or Byakuya; but if were to talk somewhere down the line I'd have to say the best choice would be Hitsugaya since he's the only Captain who even possibly has the potential to surpass the old man (provided he has this much potential mind you).
There are two reasons I can see Komamura dying. One being just how loyal he is to Yamamoto, he'd probably follow him right into whatever fray killed him. And the other being he just doesn't appear to have the combat capabilities of the other Captains.
If one of the senior Captains dies my bet would have to be on Ukitake because of his illness. It could strike at a horribly inopportune moment and I doubt he's as strong as he used to be because of it.
Personally I can't see either Kenpachi or Byakuya dying because they're just too badass to kill. In this series I'd say they tie for second under Unohana
I'd like to see Mayuri die since he's a reprobate, albeit a necessary one for the time being. Unfortunately he's proven pretty damn hard to kill. Even if someone were to destroy his brain and/or heart I wouldn't be too sure with all the modifications he seems to have performed on himself. If someone does do it I'd like it to be Uryu.
When it comes to Squad 2 and the Vaizard Captains I don't exactly so I'll have to wait and see.
As for Hinamori being killed, my thoughts are if TK wanted to do that he probably should've done it when Aizen tricked Hitsugaya into stabbing her through the heart (more than 2 years later it still boggles my mind). Though if she does die that would indeed make for some character development for Hitsugaya, good thing in that scenario he'd still have Matsumoto.
That said the winter war itself was pretty traumatic for Hitsugaya and he seems to have changed slightly as far as his personality is concerned (he seemed calmer and more focused against Yukio). When it comes to his development what I'd like to see is some of this potential that had been hinted at during some of his dialogue, particularly when he fought Harribel. Something I think would be interesting would be for those two to have a reunion.

Friends in anime are usually "people who've got your back" - and by that I mean people who can go toe-to-toe with some impressive opponents, instead of letting their "Dark Knight" do all the work for them. (Let's face it, Ichigo's HUMAN companions have barely done anything in the series. They exist to discourage the fact it's ALL a one-man's show.)

People can change quite drastically over a period of time, granted we'll have to wait and see if that's actually the case with Yamamoto. Whatever the case it's not good for him since old men who have been at the top of some powerful organization for a long time tend to have a very low survival rate.

True but that still leaves the question of how they would change. Plus this is still TK, while I'm hopeful he'll do good there's always the risk he's going to hit the bong or whatever it was he was doing while he wrote the latter half of the winter war and finished up the xcution arcs.
