Background: Kotoko is a former detective who worked alongside Makoto at the detective office formerly owned by their mentor. Kotoko shares a similar story to Makoto and Yuuka, being someone who lost their parents to an attack. Unlike Makoto and Yuuka, however, Kotoko’s loss had nothing to do with daemons or people trying to use their power, so the Church of Tristianna never came to her rescue. The people who took her parents were thugs who simply took things too far. She was, however, rescued by the man who would later become her and Makoto’s mentor. She was taken in by him after. He took on the responsibility of raising her and later, training her to be a detective like him, by her request. With this in mind, Kotoko was his student well before Makoto would be. When Makoto eventually did return to Japan from Spain, she met Kotoko’s adoptive father and joined the detective office with them. The two couldn’t be further from proper partners, as they argued frequently and Kotoko would always try and prove some superiority to Makoto. She was also a lot more jaded in her views on criminals, believing that criminals deserved the worst for their crimes.

While Kotoko was not present for her mentor’s death, news of the botched investigation got to her quickly. And naturally, Kotoko was devastated, and her already jaded personality became worse as a result. She left the office, no longer believing in the same sense of justice she had prior to meeting her mentor and father figure. She also blamed Makoto for her mentor’s death, and grew incredibly resentful of her. Kotoko had gone missing after this had all gone down, but returned the following year when Makoto had assumed lead over the office of their former mentor. However, her return was something more sinister; not only was she a high profile assassin, but she was a Cyber Magia as well, utilizing similar abilities that Makoto herself uses. Aside from having their work directly conflict with each other, Kotoko frequently taunts Makoto if the two ever come across each other.

Personality: Kotoko is a cool and collected woman, much like Makoto. However, she has a shorter temper than Makoto does, and has much more of a sadistic streak than her former partner does. She has no problem threatening others or taunting them with a bright smile on her face. Unlike Makoto, Kotoko has a very jaded view on justice, believing the only way a criminal can truly atone is through their execution. This is somewhat contradictory, as she is an assassin, and therefore commits crimes on her own. Kotoko is an assassin, but she only takes jobs against those who have committed some kind of crime themselves, and she excludes children from her list of potential targets. Kotoko is also not a fan of breaches in contracts or other forms of betrayal. She hates Makoto more than anything else in this world, and swears to be the one to kill her as revenge for taking her father from her. Her desire to kill Makoto actually protects Makoto in a way, as Kotoko has no qualms about stepping into a fight between Makoto and someone else if it looks like Makoto is losing. Another trait she shares with Makoto is they’re both flirty.

Abilities: Similarly to Makoto, Kotoko is someone with well versed detective skills, and while she is no longer a detective herself, she has no issues solving cases or tying evidence together as if she was one. Her adoptive father also taught her how to defend herself, and since taking on an assassin’s life, Kotoko has modified her fighting style to be more offensive than defensive. She is also good with firearms, most specifically handguns, much like Makoto as well. She also isn’t one for using magic, and only really knows basic spells.

Kotoko’s base Cyber Magia form is quite different from Makoto’s, focusing more on melee combat than ranged. Her fighting style in this form seems to be more based on boxing, landing quick but powerful hits in rapid succession. She is also capable of moving at almost blinding speeds, making it appear as though she’s teleporting. However, like Makoto, Kotoko is also capable of changing her form when transformed. Unlike Makoto, who makes use of drives, Kotoko uses cards. These cards allow her to change her combat style and abilities on the fly. She has a buster form that allows her use of an arm cannon similarly to Makoto’s standard Cyber Magia form, as well as an aerial combat form that grants her flight along with a beam saber and a whip-like weapon. Like all Cyber Magia, Kotoko is capable of travelling through electronic devices and going across long distances this way.
