Background: Valerie, known better as “Val”, is a woman with a shrouded history. She is known to be an orphan and spent most of her childhood in loneliness. However, being a child didn’t keep her out of the clutches of a certain mad scientist, Erika Devens. Val was kidnapped as a young child by this woman, to be used as a lab rat for her own insane experiments. She wouldn’t be the first to be kidnapped, either, and many people both older and younger than her were taken. To call her experience in captivity “a living hell” would be an understatement. Though, she did have one saving grace in the form of two friends; Edward Grant and Noriko Akatsuki. Initially hesitant to interact with them because they were strangers, foreigners as well, the three eventually bonded together through the years they spent in captivity. The three would even end up becoming adults, enduring this hell together. Edward was the oldest of the three, being 26, Val being the middle at 22, and Noriko being the youngest at 18.

The three eventually planned an escape after enduring their hell long enough. Because of the experiments done on them, the three of them weren’t normal humans anymore and had access to Henshin and Cyber Magia transformations that weren’t available to the general public. Using their abilities given to them by Erika herself, Val and Edward were able to escape, but at a cost; Noriko was captured and subsequently left behind in Erika’s clutches. By the time the two noticed, it was too late for them to turn back, as going back would likely result in all three of their deaths. As against it as she was, Val had to accept this and leave with Edward. However, the guilt of leaving their close friend behind festered a darkness in both Val and Edward…

While Edward had become vengeful and hateful towards those who use magic, Henshin and regular people alike, Val became lost, confused, and without purpose. She wandered from place to place trying to find someplace she felt she belonged. Along with her guilt and her loneliness, both overtook her enough that she began to fear the very idea of being alone and she became desperate. Her wandering eventually led her into the service of Xander Klein, at his Mage Academy. He made no attempts to hide his plans and goals from her, knowing how desperate she had been. Even with the knowledge that her purpose would be a wrong one, she accepted this anyway. If it meant she had a reason to live, she would do it. It was then that she was given a secondary Cyber Magia device and form to go along with it, unaware that this second form would only make the darkness in her heart worsen and overtake her until she couldn’t even be seen as human anymore.

Personality: Val is arrogant and self-centered, only focusing on things that benefit her and prefers to work alone. She is prideful of both her skill in battle and in her looks. To that end, she is known to be flirtatious and has no issues with using her looks and charm to get an edge on someone. However, her selfish and standoffish attitude is a result of her being fearful of a commitment to friendship, fearing that she will be abandoned again and be without purpose. Speaking of purpose, Val’s moral compass is a very broken one, not believing in wrong or right entirely and instead believing in whatever purpose she or someone else gives her. While she doesn’t trust Xander, she admits she would further be lost if not for him, and believes she is indebted to him, however wrong his plans may be.

When in her Acid Blackwing form, Val is unhinged and outright evil, only caring about absolute victory. However, she does not tolerate interruptions of any kind, be they friend or foe.

Abilities: Thanks to Erika’s enhancements, Val is more physically capable than an average human. She is capable of defending herself normally, but when it comes to combat, she prefers to use her Cyber Magia forms. Her Cyber Magia forms, in addition to the abilities they present alone, are able to work in conjunction with technology like computers, being able to transfer herself into a “Cyber World”, where she can travel long distances in a matter of moments or hack into them.

As stated previously, Val has two Cyber Magia forms, something a normal human would be incapable of handling. Her normal Cyber Magia form, codenamed “Paladin”, is a more straightforward combat type, making use of a sword & shield, as well as a bow & arrow for combat. It boosts her already impressive physical capabilities as well.

Her second Cyber Magia form is codenamed “Acid Blackwing”, and is a much eviler transformation by comparison. It features a more “berserk” style of attack, making use of razor sharp claws and talons in combat and foregoing strategy in favor of brutalizing the enemy. Aside from that, she can release feathers known as “Feather Fangs” which have bladed edges on them and can swarm in and attack an enemy from multiple directions. While Acid Blackwing is the more powerful of the two transformations, it is also more unstable and damages Val’s psyche and spirit with each use.
