Description
Welcome to the Metro Bus Sign Series, where you will witness the bus signs combining the past with the present and the future. In this installment, we take a look at Line 201. Line 201 runs daily through several streets, goes through neighborhoods between the Wilshire/Vermont Station, and have an eastern portion that runs during the rush hour and one midday service -- totally five on weekdays. Here's the history of Line 201:
12/1980: Line 201 began it's running when it replaced portions of 20, 22 and 65
1/1994: Line 201 was detoured to/from Glendale Metrolink Station after Northridge earthquake (detour cancelled after one month)
7/1996: Southern terminal was realigned to the Wilshire/Vermont Red Line Station -- now dubbed as the Wilshire/Vermont Station.
6/2000: Realigned past Vermont/Beverly Red Line Station (restored to original alignment after one day)
6/2002: Realigned via San Fernando Road when Goodwin Avenue railroad crossing closed.
12/2005: Line 201 was realigned in downtown Glendale via Broadway - Glendale Avenue - California Avenue and in Atwater Village via Glendale Boulevard, Brunswick Street, and Chevy Chase Drive.
12/2006: Realigned in downtown Glendale via Broadway - Chevy Chase Drive, w/ services between Glendale Adventist Medical Center and Glenoaks Park to be discontinued (the abandoned segment was replaced the next day by a Glendale Beeline "special service" shuttle -- later numbered Glendale Beeline 13 -- which was extended to downtown Glendale 8/07 and reduced to five weekday-only roundtrips)
3/2010: Detoured via Glendale Boulevard & Silver Lake Boulevard south of Rowena Drive (temporary DWP closure of W. Silver Lake Dr.)
5/2011: Original route on West Silver Lake Drive has been restored (a second detour via Los Feliz Boulevard and San Fernando Road, because of the closure of Brunswick Dr., was also operated during the final two months of the original detour)
1/2012: Re-extended along route segment to Glenoaks Park on five daily round-trips as replacement for cancelled Glendale Beeline 13.
