Description Philomena was a great character (even if she did make Fluttershy cry); I hope that we see more of her in the future! I decided to make her with an extra feature: she can be turned into a pile of "ashes," thus enabling her to be "reborn." It was a pain trying to figure out how to do the inner liner so as to accomplish that, but I think she turned out great!

She is made from Ultra Cuddle, organza, crushed panne, and fleece. Her eyes are gold fabric w/red fabric paint outline, and her beak tip is fabric paint as well. I have no idea what the gray fabric is, other than really stretchy and on sale. Wings are made with a foam core to hold their shape and enable flexibility. She measures 21 inches from nose to tail tip, and her wingspan is 23 inches. She condenses down to an 8" by 5" pile of ash.

Philomena belongs to Hasbro and Ms. Faust; however, the pattern is my own.

If commissions are still available I might get one. How much would it cost?

For a Reversible philomena, she would start at $100 plus S&H (if you wanted an accessory or other touch that would raise the price based on materials close and complexity). Thank you for your inquiry!

Oh, she's not for sale, she's mine (and not very good, if truth be told, since she was the first draft). She can be commissioned, though (but the list is pretty long).

Love it! What material did you use for the middle tail feathers? the sparkling ones?

Thank you! The tail feathers are all different kinds of organza. The red has orange highlights, but you can't really see them in the horrible picture. I plan on redoing her in minky, but not sure if I want to do the tail in minky or figure out how to get a better edge using organza...

Hi! Sorry for delayed reply, I workΒ most of the day and don't check DA until I get home. Yes, IΒ can still make this plush; I am also tossing about ideas for making a PeeWee that reverses into an egg, but I am currently booked on projects for quite some time to come, so that will have to wait (unless someone uses a commission slot to ask for him). I made her in Ultra cuddle, although I could try Minky (but it would raise the price since I can't go to a store for it). However, I do not have any commission slots open right now as I am working through 12 Equestria Girl cosplay sets first. I open/announce commission slots through journals. Thank you for your inquiry!

Really cool. I had a stuffed duck that could turn into an egg when I was little, but doing a phoenix and ash pile is really clever. Looks great too!

I am working on getting the last of the bugs out and shrinking her down a little so I can offer her for commissions. I am also currently working on a dress for my Luna plushie, though, so I don't know how long. I'm not exactly the fastest sewer in the East.

How did you think of this?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Crafty-Kaiju In reply to partymicro [2012-11-04 18:52:33 +0000 UTC]

I wanted to do something original and off-the-wall; I like taking "regular" projects and making them unique. I was going to do a Philomena for my Celestia plush anyways, so I thought I would give her a twist, and this is what I came up with. I had been toying with the idea of using real feathers, but I had already done that twice with my ponies, so I started brainstorming on how to get an "ash" effect instead.

Well you did an amazing job!!!!
Do you do pony OC commissions!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Crafty-Kaiju In reply to partymicro [2012-11-05 22:48:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks again! I am not going to take pony commissions until I get the pattern bugs worked out (especially the head/neck swivel joint) and am faster at sewing. No point to take a commission if it takes me a month to do it; folks shouldn't have to wait that long. Philomena was much easier (compared to ponies), so I am much happier working her into a commission-able item first. Plus, that will give me the practice sewing that I need to improve my ponies, so it's a win-win. Plus x2, I also need to work out a regular pony pattern first (I focused on alicorns).

The-Crafty-Kaiju In reply to Dylan-the-dude [2012-10-31 15:23:06 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I just looked at pictures of her and built a pattern based on those. Then I stalked "reversible" toys at Wal-Mart trying to see how they flipped, and coming up with my own version (I will modify future editions based on what I learned with this one). It was a lot easier than making a pony, that's for sure.

Thank you very much! I tried hard to do her justice, and I like phoenixes in general. I did take some liberty with her tail feathers and crest, but I found some flame colored organza that I just couldn't pass up.

Thank you very much! My husband is trying to convince me to start commissioning them (she was significantly easier to build than a pony, although parts of her gave me fits). Not sure about it yet, though. If I do, I'll make sure to toss it up in a journal or something. Thanks for the comment!

The-Crafty-Kaiju In reply to noonetells [2012-11-01 19:49:56 +0000 UTC]

We were talking about it some more, and we think that if I was to start offering them, maybe $45 or $50. I need to work the bugs out of her first, though (I made 3 different heads before I got one that was decent, and I still want to tweak it some more).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

noonetells In reply to The-Crafty-Kaiju [2012-11-02 01:56:41 +0000 UTC]

Well I think this head looks great. I guess that sounds reasonable since it's all hand made... but maybe once you're happy with everything about the pattern you could down size it and make a smaller (and cheaper ) plush.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Crafty-Kaiju In reply to noonetells [2012-11-02 14:14:59 +0000 UTC]

I can try to make smaller ones; it will save me on material costs & time, too. The head is going to be tough to make smaller, though...I have no idea how companies that manufacture those tiny little plushes (like Beanie Babies and whatnot) can get so much detail packed in like that and still be able to turn them rightside out. I'll keep experimenting, though (or look for easier fabric than fleece for the top beak portion).

The-Crafty-Kaiju In reply to noonetells [2012-11-03 03:34:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the tip! I am planning a trip to the fabric store tomorrow to get materials for the dress I'm making for Luna; I will see what they have in orange ultra cuddle (the closest I've got to minky here) or something similar. The only problem is it shreds, so hopefully I can find it in a low pile.
