Season 10 is a finale movie of sorts. The stories of the Ninja are all winding down, the mentor takes a back seat, and Garmadon is at last redeemed! Ten seasons, two resurrections, and a stern talking to from his son later, and Garmadon is at last set right. This redemption is actually handled well as he still has to live with the error of his ways, but it is Lloyd who teaches him the steps to greatness and how to fix things later. Plus, we were working with this guy for TEN SEASONS! So it was now or never. These four episodes feel like a proper conclusion, so if you want to hop ship with Ninjago, that's a good time.

Season 11 is another "soft reboot". Remix theme song, 11-minute episodes instead of half-hour blocks, new animation, but the same characters and setting. Season 11 on even drops the "Masters of Spinjitzu" subtitle, effectively making this "Ninjago, Mark II". The new season is...alright. Zane falls into another dimension, they have to break him out, there are ice zombies and a Yeti, and flashback sequences are done in an impressive 2D art style reminiscent of action shows of the 2000's. A welcome change of pace to be sure. I felt some episodes dragged and many could have been cut down if we just went to 30-minute blocks, but at least the characters still work and the ending was satisfying. I'm not sorry I watched through.

Season 12 is airing in Asia without links, so Ninjago is on hold now. This seems like a good franchise pick for LEGO. It has good characters, an intriguing concept, and since the story resets every season it can remain fresh. I wonder what LEGO will do when it's over though. Ninjago is so ingrained in the brand it even has a wing of Legoland. You can't exactly take that down. But no matter where the show goes from here, it will be fun to see how it adapts and evolves.
