A concept I actually came up with a few months ago. I'm in the mood to pick it up again, so here's this.The "Pokefone" [beta name] acts as my region's Poketch or PokeGear. However, its features will be explained more in the coming weeks c; (I will say that it is actually about half an inch thick. The picture is just really blown up :s)
Image + name is beta because I haven't gotten my ideas down exactly. By finalization either/both might change.
Based on today's smart phones.

I've actually had a phone on the mind for a long time now...
Though I'm also trying to envision how it'd work on the bottom screen. Such things are crucial when making up good PokΓ©mon shtuffs, yes?

I envisioned that you'd open the Pokefone option via the main menu. It'll bring you to a screen where both the top and bottom screen have apps on them, arranged by 3 rows with 3 apps per row. Using the touch screen, you could swipe either up or down to rotate through the apps (or use the D-pad to choose from them). If you use the touch screen, whatever row at the very top of the top screen would loop back to the very bottom of the touch screen (if you swiped up), and vice versa if you swipe down. There's also be an option for you to move around your apps, so that your more frequently used ones are always on the bottom so you don't have to deal with the swiping motion that often. Probably difficult to script, but the folks over at GAME FREAK could probably do it :s

I was also hoping to have an iphone type thing for my menu/pokegear in my game, but I don't know anyone who can make the script for it to happen.
